Hi all,
Vanilla are planning an update to the site on April 24th (next Wednesday). It is a major PHP8 update which is expected to boost performance across the site. The site will be down from 7pm and it is expected to take about an hour to complete. We appreciate your patience during the update.

ever seen a setup like this?

    Have you ever seen a setup like this where the oil tank is Lower than the oil boiler? this is what its like at our gaff - I always thought it had to work on a gravity principle , IE where the tank is higher than the boiler so that the oil flowed down to the boiler?

    The boiler works OK as it should but wouldnt the oil pump in the boiler have to work that much harder than it should because the oil is floating away from the boiler?

    I done a diagram to show what our system is like:

    You get gravity and pump based systems.
    Since your system is working then you must have a pump.

    theres a Riello Oil pump in the boiler - is that the pump you mean? - cannot find any other pump - the (white plastic coated) copper oil pipe goes under the grass and then under the pavement , to a tigerloop just outside the boiler module

    With the tiger loop, the tank doesnt need to be elevated.

    ah right thanks, i thought tigerloop was just to bleed air in oil

    Oil burner pump is designed to pump vertically 4.5m (or was is 5?) and would require a deareator, other than that it's fine.

    For instances where your above the duty of the pump, you would install an oil lifter.

    To test the duty on the pump for the lift, you would use a vacuum gauge at the pump vacuum test point.

    Its all fascinating , I've only ever seen installations whereby the tank is always higher than the boiler so that the oil runs towards the boiler rather than away from it.

    So this tigerloop, is it just an airiator or is it a device that also seperates water from the kerosene as well as bleeding air in the kerosene before it reaches the boiler or is there a seperate device on the market that seperates water from the kerosene if water happens to be in it?

    most probably how oil boilers and shtuff like that work :D
