Looking at teh schedule, there are 3 games a day per pitch in UCD on the 9th. Will the pitch not be in terrible condition by the third match?

The UCD bowl pitch is really well maintained. This time of year along with some expert ground keeping and it will be fine.

No. There will be 3 games per pitch for each day of the competition. It will be the same for the finals in Ravenhill and Queens. It wont be an issue. Pitches wont tear that much. With timing of competition as well. The pitches will be fine

Seen pics of the temporary stands going up.
Why isn't donnybrook being used as a venue? Surely that would save cost.

Or are they going for the Wimbledon "village" vibe with the fans

Because Donnybrook doesn't suit for a variety of reasons. Cost wise/atmosphere wise having a base with all games in UCD and all teams based their is better before all move to Queens for final 2 rounds of games

The temporary stands at the GAA pitch in UCD look well. They're pretty close to the bar too, so I am sort of pumped.

The only downside is that pitch has a fairly decent slope going across it. I guess it can't be that bad if they play GAA on it.

I imagine it's because Donnybrook is artificial.

You'd either have to play all of the games on that surface or none of them.

And there is no venue larger than Donnybrook with 4G so if they want to sell more for the final, you're pretty stuck.

As for using the RDS, seemed like a good option and a good size for the bigger games, but if they're going in tandem with the whole "one Island" bid a la 2023, then having games up North looks really good

Niamh Briggs ruled out of the tournament due to injury replaced by Louise Galvin

That's really crappy news for her. Only just back and gone again. Sport really can be cruel.

Where would be a good place to park for the UCD Bowl tomorrow? Is there parking in UCD itself during the World Cup?

Yes parking in UCD. Just don't park in the gym as you will get clamped. I'm working as a volunteer at it. Was there at the training day yesterday. Parking in sign posted. Defo parking at the Clonskeagh entrance. Wasn't near any of the other car parks

Yeah that was the one thing I was wondering about. There's no shortage of parking in UCD generally but had no idea what was open and not. I'd imagine they'll have he barriers lifted too so you can access all the car parks without having to go back out and around?

  • Registered Users Posts: 3,496 ✭✭✭arsebiscuits1

Drove through campus there a while back.

Fair play to whoever is doing branding.

All of the carparks have a big WRWC sign saying you can park here etc. you can't miss em

If you go in the main entrance via the N11 and go left and follow the road, you will pass at least 5 cark parks for the tournament.

Great reception from the Irish fans after Ireland's Call was played out at UCD.

I hope the Ireland Women win this match against the Aussie Women. Looks very tough so far but #COYGIG #BRINGIT. :D

Pack are doing fantastic. Stapleton showing early nerves. Not like her at all

  • Registered Users Posts: 573 ✭✭✭Hastentoadd

Great try Muldoon, Stapleton adds the extras 7-0 to Ireland

  • Registered Users Posts: 23,716 ✭✭✭✭Larbre34

Well worked score to open the account there.

The nerves are being worked out, but frankly Ireland have these Aussie girls for skill, experience, set piece, fitness and aggression. You'll win nothing with 7's

  • Registered Users Posts: 573 ✭✭✭Hastentoadd

What was that from Australia. Virtually on the 22, penalty awarded right in front of the post, and then they kick for touch, and the kick for touch is so bad it ends up as a lineout on the 22. Bizarre

Not really, i watched her closely at the home 6N games, she wasnt herself at all. Had an outright mare against England.

Shes obviously keeping her touchfinders safe tonight, but i suspect she misses the safety net of Briggs taking the place kicks. No doubt she'll warm to it with Muldoon in the partnership.
