Going to holland on holidays so can anyone recommend some nice local beers to try? Not a big fan of heineken or amstel - would prefer a wheat/white beer or red ale

Lots of Dutch craft beers at the moment - Oedipus, Brouwerij t'Ij or Lowlander come to mind first

Where abouts? Most places have a decent local brewery these days.

A lot of the Dutch national beers aren't great, though Gulpener Korenwolf is a fairly good witbier which you'll get in supermarkets; similarly Hertog Jan does decent and readily available red stuff: their Bockbier or Karakter.

Speaking of Holland, I'm off to the Hague for a stag in September. Don't suppose anyone knows of any decent bars in the city?

The Ratebeer listings are here. They're usually a good starting point.

https://www.dutchbeerpages.com/ can be useful, though not sure he's been to the Hague.

    In The Hague try:

    Cafe Rootz

    Huppel The Pub

    Kompaan Brewery

Kompaan is the local craft brewery and their stuff is available in the local Supermarkets (Albert Heijn), they also stock some Brewdog beers and Dutch/Belgian beers at good prices.

And they make a beer called Hand Langer, which is automatically hilarious.
