Sticky caliper

Car (MKII RS2000) has been laid up for a while (a few months). It's pulling to one side under braking now. I think a brake piston is stuck.

The thing is though that the calipers are relatively new (overhauled and exchanged) and it's kept in a dry place so I'd be surprised if the pistons were rusty.

What's the easiest way to loosen them off?

It could also be a collapsed rubber hose, they narrow on the inside with age.

Unlikely as the flexible hoses are braided.

Remove both pads from sticking caliper replace with piece of plywood slightly thinner than pads then apply brakes. This will allow the pistons to move further than normal and shoud free the initial seizure. Once free get some castrol red grease and pull the rubber boot free slightly and smear inside using a thln blunt applicator.
Push pistons back and pump the pedal again . Repeat several times.
If this doesn't work you'll have to remove it and overhaul it.
Note if there is rough corrosion on the piston it will soon destroy the seals so treat this method as a temporary mrethod only.
    Good luck.

New fitting kit arrived - anti rattle clips, shims, pins, and retaining clips.

Will get c clamp (to isolate sticking piston) and will get busy over the next few days.....

Just a follow up on this. The sticky piston was released and the new fitting kit used back in the summer.

I put the car back into storage and returned over Christmas to see if it would start and drive. Reconnected the (newish) battery and it fired into life very quickly. Engine is very strong since the top end was rebuilt about 12 months ago.

The really good news is that the brakes worked well and the car pulled up in a straight line every time.

    Delighted :D
