Hi all,
Vanilla are planning an update to the site on April 24th (next Wednesday). It is a major PHP8 update which is expected to boost performance across the site. The site will be down from 7pm and it is expected to take about an hour to complete. We appreciate your patience during the update.

The media and politics in Ireland

    After listening to Newstalk today covering the election of Leo Varadkar, is the Irish media doing a disservice to politics, the coverage managed to be both gossipy and vulgar referring to them as Varadkar and Coveny.

    Maybe its just Chris Donoghue slightly slimy manner or something trying to ham it up and generate some sort of controversy that was not there.

    The media should not be shaping the news, they are there to be dispassionate reporters of the news.

    Is there far too close a relationship between the media and politics in Ireland?

    My point is how detrimental to politics that is, I am not singling out Newstalk alone.

    To generate a bit of controversy even the 'decent' media have descended to the level of click bate.

    Because there is a rule in Montrose to favour the looney left.

    What's the big deal with that specifically? Referring to politicians by their surnames is pretty standard in the media.
