Lots of seized cars destroyed in a fire at Louth division's compound this evening.
Sounds to me like it's malicious.

Wonder do any car owners have grounds for a claim, or is just
'tough, you didn't claim back your ride, have a nice trip to donedeal there for yourself sonny'

Pity that's not what is done to owners that are at the extreme end of not giving a sh1t.

The killer of it will be that it's likely those who had their car seized for having no insurance will be covered by the owners of the premises and those who had insurance will have to make a claim on their own cars policy, feckin disgrace

How would the owners of the premises be liable?

Does one have a claim against the Gardai if one's car is seized (legally for, say, no insurance) and subsequently destroyed or is it tough luck?

The Waste Department? Do they mean the EPA?

Are they checking for emissions or are they hoping to catch people littering beside a checkpoint? :D

Boreenmanna road is right on my doorstep & drives me nuts every time there's a match !. Problem is they've been getting away with it for ages & last weekend was the first time in a good while I've actually seen any parking enforcement.

The vehicles would have been under their care at the time so they would be responsible for the safety of them, I don't see any difference to your car being repaired at a garage and the premises going on fire.

If the car is impounded, does the ownership transfer to the state?

As for the owners of the pound, they have no contract with the registered owners of the impounded cars. They may have a liability to the Gardai, but not the car owners/drivers who were breaking the law at the time they were impounded.

Are the Gardai responsible for the impounded cars? Not sure about that, if they took 'reasonable' care.

No doubt, free legal aid will come to the rescue.

Legal Aid is not available in civil cases.

They don't but they do with the Gardaí for the storage of the vehicles, I would think they would have to as terms of the contract have x amount of insurance cover in place to be considered for the contract.

Yes, but do the Gardai have any liability for cars impounded because the driver was illegal - either driving without insurance, tax or NCT?

If the car has no NCT, it has no commercial value beyond scrap.

I would say they do, I know when they seize a car with no tow truck available and drive it to the station that the State covers them for doing this should anything go wrong.

I wouldn't say a car with no NCT has no commercial value, there could be a 2013 car with no NCT seized, that will be worth plenty, could have missed the NCT and be perfectly fine although if it was in the fire it will be hard to tell either way :D

That would be an ecumenical matter.

What you are saying is a model T Ford in pristine condition, without a NCT is worthless. I do'nt think so. :o

Saw a female driving a 171 Tiguan yesterday with a phone to her ear. The mind boggles.

Either she thinks talking on the phone while driving is a status symbol or she's a bit thick, most likely both :D

They had a number of big checkpoints around D15 yesterday and had a car transporter with them in anticipation of the amount they were going to catch.
