During the election campaign, Donald Trump talked about ending sanctions against Russia. He also spoke about withdrawing support for NATO. Both of these policies would be good for Russia.

Recently however, Teresa May said Donald Trump reaffirmed his commitment to NATO. Also, Trump has been using belligerent language regarding Iran which is a Russian ally. Furthermore, in the recent UN resolution on Israeli settlements, the Obama administration had abstained from voting, which caused the resolution to pass and this will be a big problem for Trump. This will put the Trump administration and Russia on opposing sides on that resolution.

Trump has already suggested he will not necessarily get along with Putin. In other words it is up to Putin to conform to Trumps agenda.

Putin on the other hand has not got along with a single US President since he was appointed successor to Borris Yeltsin. Indeed I believe Yeltsin deliberately choose Putin for his stubbornness and integrity. Putin will not compromise on what he believes is right.

Why did Yeltsin choose such a man? Anyone who recalls how Yeltsin reacted to the US bombing Serbia will understand that things began to sour again fairly quickly between the US and Russia following the end of the cold war. Also Bill Clinton took every opportunity to poke fun at Yeltsin, knowing that Russia was in dire financial straits following the collapse of its economy.

Finally, Russia (along with China) have been stockpiling gold in recent years. If a major economic crash brings down the global economy this year (I believe it will) then Russia and China are likely to be in a much stronger position than the western economies. As in the case of Serbia, history suggests the superpowers play on each others economic weaknesses.

The US have being selling their gold to China and Russia to compress the price in the last 6 years. They don't allow audits of their gold because most of it is well gone. China underestimates their gold holdings so not to spook the masses and continue to buy gold relatively cheaply in this age of unbacked currencies.

Russia had a good relationship with the US from the end of the cold war to about 6yrs ago when Russia helped form the BRICKS and Euroasian alliances that moved power away from the corrupt world bank, IMF and US petrodollar. Since then the US establishment and western mainstream media have being particularly anti Russia. I would hope to see Trump be the bigger person and not try push for WW3 like Obama and Hillary were doing.

    Nonsense posts erased.

We sat again for an hour and a half discussing maps and figures and always getting back to that most damnable creation of the perverted ingenuity of man - the County of Tyrone.

I am impressed conditioned games. You are well informed on this point. Also, a few years ago, Germany or France (not sure which) asked for their gold back from the US and they had to wait years for delivery. The reason was because the US no longer had their gold in Fort Knox, it had been sold years earlier.
