A quality ear piece would be good but providing them with that would be acknowledgment that the gardai need to use personal mobiles to carry out their business. Ie if you officially provide them with Bluetooth shouldn't you officially be providing them with a phone? Android? Windows? Apple? Can't see it happening!

Police forces in other parts of the world have those - both the Polizia and Carabinieri in Italy have service smartphones in the car. NYPD has phones and tablets as well, afaik.

When they get full ANPR working on all Garda vehicles I would expect 1000 car seizures a week initially.

    Its a nice dream

They will have to get rid of all i30 the system ain't going to fit.

More camera operations on roads and the go safe vans converted to anpr would have been a much better idea.

Patrol all trouble prone areas and one thing take out shares in a towing company.

Naas seems to be a very busy traffic unit.
Big population area I know but lots of offenders.

And a judge who despises traffic offenders

If you look at zaidans judgements, he's light on everything except traffic offences
So the guards don't get disheartened

So, how many would be I30 and how many I40, roughly. If the I30 was bought and it is too small, who's head can we call for? :D

What AGS are doing at the moment in this area is nothing short of disgraceful. We see reports of up to 20 checkpoints per day being run with possibly 4-5 guards being tied up with them. On the other hand in the likes of Maynooth,Nass, Newbridge and Lexilip on a Friday and Saturday night when the anti social behaviour starts when the pubs shut there is a guard to be seen anywhere. Funny that.

Agree with your comments. Gardaí being tide up with checkpoints looking for expired Ins/Tax/NCT is ridiculous.

Why is there no database of Insurance/Tax and NCT? It cannot be that difficult to keep a record for each car?

Indeed. It's spot on that they are taking cars off people with no insurance and NCT that has been out for yonks. There must be an easier way though than random checkpoints thus using valuable resource. But the tax thing could surely be handled in a different manner.

Can the ANPR not be rolled out to the speedvans and traffic cameras. So if you are picked up on one of these cameras driving without Nct,Tax or Insurance you would get an automatic summons. I would think this would be easily enough implemented.

Just on that. Obviously with the lesser crime of no tax you give someone a chance to pay + arrears and maybe a small penalty on top of that to try and discourage.

Would have thought most of this was Traffic Corps?

    Most of what? Checkpoints etc?

But that's my point. There doesn't seem to be enough Gardas to police anti social behaviour and prevent crime but there are enough to mount 20-30 checkpoints a day.

I think the above would explain why some citizens feel a lot of them are glorified tax collectors.

And it would also seem that since they settled their dispute with the Government they are out and about a bit more paying for it.

I was under the impression that AGS was a separate unit, dedicated traffic corp and did not suck in other Gardai. Kildare as a region has the lowest number of gardai per head of population. That's the real problem. They are spread too thin.

I would have thought it was the job of the traffic corps to police this kind of stuff

Do you really think that a summons will stop these people from driving illegally. they will ignore the summons and contimue on their merry way.

    It is.

They do laps of Newbridge, Naas and the surrounding areas - pulling people for traffic offences and carrying out a whole lot of checkpoints, it's good like, particularly in the theme of this thread.

But - off topic (kinda) it doesn't seem to do anything to stem the massive rate of rural crime, break ins & thefts in the area.

No but if they have an address linked to the vehicle it would be easy enough to collect it from there if summons are ignored.

But that's not off topic though really.

With ANPR mounted on traffic poles that are already there and in go safe vans they could can 100 times the offenders than checkpoints can. Thus freeing up resources for other problems.
