Hi all,
Vanilla are planning an update to the site on April 24th (next Wednesday). It is a major PHP8 update which is expected to boost performance across the site. The site will be down from 7pm and it is expected to take about an hour to complete. We appreciate your patience during the update.

    Does anyone know why the county councils are cutting trees along our country roads? Is this an EU directive perhaps?

    That could be it. The R466 was where I saw a lot of cutting and it's earmarked on your map for fibre.

    I was fairly sure it wasn't a traffic hazard.
    Anyway, "vorsprung durch technik" as they say, but still it seems a shame. That was such a picturesque drive. between Tulla and Ardnacrusha.

    Not an EU rule. You could send an email to the Council and ask?

    Also, is it the the Council or landowners? It is often a case of not wanting to maintain the trees and using the safety hazard as an excuse. The majority of hedgerow in Kerry has been decimated over the past 10 years because of this.

    Any photos of the before and after?

    No "before" photos unfortunately.
    And many of these were large, mature trees. Nearly all of them were cut down to the stumps.

    Unlikely to be the Eir fibre rollout then, as I think they only trim back around the top of the poles and remove branches overhanging the cable.

    Best approach is to approach the Council to see what excuse they have.

    Yes, because the EU has a special interest in those darn trees on some arbitrary road. The nerve of those trees! Thankfully the EU Directives are here to put them in their place.
