You owe what you owe on the mortgage, not what the house is worth, sadly that's business.

Yeah, but when they buy the mortgage for 50c in the euro and when they'll get less if they auction the house you'd think they'd cop on and make a deal with the owner.

If he owed €10 million they'd make a deal. Thats whats pissing people off.

    Apologies in advance

"And how did your wife get on", asks Joe.

Yes they will actually get the full originally owed money off some people because they play such hardball with them, that will offset those who don't and either way they can repossess the house and resell. As these funds don't have any other business interests in the country they don't care about pulic opinion over what they are doing.

I used to work for a bank in Dublin where risky borrowers were categorised in terms of stones and turnips.

Homeowners were invariably the turnips: as the saying went, you can't get blood out of a stone but you can get always get water out of a turnip. In other words, people have an emotional connection to their mortgage in a way that other borrowers do not, and banks will indeed exploit that.

I often wonder about him, like all he has to do is sit and listen, but he often misses out some piece of information and then asks the caller again

"Syl and the Gang" are inthe studio, and no, it's not the poor man's version of 70's & 80's Funk combo, Kool and the Gang.
It's the overpaid, nepotism benefit squad, as paid for by you, the TV licence payer.

Talk to ye Monday, enjoy the weekend.

I really enjoyed Joe's attempts at pronouncing 'Eurydice' and his auld bluster about how there were different ways to say it as it comes from the opera, so to speak. Which opera? By whom? Offenbach, Gluck?

He never heard of the Greek myth of Orpheus and Eurydice, by the sounds of it, which is fine.
It's the bluster, the half read Wiki page on the fly on the 'eye-pad', instead of owning up to not really having a clue how to say it or where it comes from.
