    I don't know.

I mean, I know Brady, Patricia, Flores and McCourty have all gushed about what a good teammate Collins was, but they obviously weren't looking when he had any of his cancer-y moments.
Just to be clear, I don't believe that they was any locker room issues.

But surely there must have been something for the trade to happen? If it's not effort, money, talent, team/coaching relationships....... then why is he gone? It's bizarre.

I've heard Bill Simmons and read in other places that the 3rd round compensatory pick is basically like a second round pick. Is it not at the end of the third round where that pick will be?

I do find it kind of strange that they were probably going to get a 3rd round compensation pick for his free agency move any way. I just don't understand how it makes sense at all for the Pats.

Do I come across to you as condescending to you a lot?

I never mean to sound that way. I'm just saying that I've seen these things so much with the Patriots that it doesn't bother me anymore. How on earth does that come across as condescending?

I remember the bad days when we were a laughing stock, that's before Bob and Bill. I remember Belichick getting rid of Lawyer Milloy, Ty Law, Asante Samuel and Richard Seymour who were all top class, popular and highly respected defensive players with the Patriots. We move on though and it's next man up and most of the time he does just as good a job as the guy he replaces.

At no stage since this began have I said that Collins was a bad player. I've said I was surprised he was traded just not overly so. I went back and looked at the games and he did some stupid things over the last couple of games he played. I wouldn't have ever picked them out as being on purpose or anything like that but now that it's been mentioned you can definitely make a case for it if you want to. I'm still not saying for certain that he was freelancing in a bunch of games but there were plays where he was definitely going for the highlight reel play when staying on his feet looked a more sensible option.

I think people were saying something about the Taylor touchdown on 4th and 3 on Sunday which is ridiculous. He was looking around him before the play for sure and he went on the blitz, whether that was the play that was called or not I don't know but it was strange that they left a big hole up the middle.

Either way though the play should have been called back for a facemask on Collins by Incognito so I don't know how people can go blaming Collins there.

Yes I'm backing Belichick because he doesn't make half-assed decisions. I think there is more to it than just the contract issue but we'll never hear it because keeping it out of the media is the Patriot way.

Also if Collins felt wronged here he could speak to the media but as far as I'm aware he hasn't said anything about it.

Last thing is that this will focus the other players like nothing else. Just imagine being part of a group like this and the next thing one of the stars is traded like it's nothing. You can bet that will light a fire under everybody's ass.

It is most likely going to come down to the fact that Bill thought it was the right time to ship him. Bad performance and not following instruction against the Bills and Bill probably felt more of that was to come so rather than deal with it in true Patriots fashion we ship them. The stupid thing is he has had a good season other than that Bills game. This will come down to Bill feeling it was the right time to ship him so he doesn't have to deal with any fall out from Collins after that Bills game if any fallout even happened or was going to happen. Pre-empt strike if you will.

We hope this is the case. The Patriots have been mostly ok at shipping guys with no fall out in the locker room but time will tell if this trade is one of those times. Yes the players will know that nobody is safe but it wont stop them feeling that it was the wrong move by Bill. They are human after all. Hopefully this doesn't cause any issues going forward in the locker room especially if our defense goes to sh1t missing a guy with his talent.

Getting away from Collins (for now).
It's the bye and a weekend without watching the Pats in action.

    Positives:
    • (So far) we haven't been killed with injuries
    • Look good at 7:1
    • Went 3:1 without Tom
    • Jimmy performed very well during his game-time
    • TB has looked great since coming back
    • The TE tandem has elevated the offense
    • Division already looks like it's won

    Negatives:
    • The OL remains a big worry when we play the better teams in the playoffs
    • The defense hasn't looked great; esp a concern when we play the better teams/QB's in the playoffs
    • We may have just gotten weaker on defense due to trading Collins
    • I still think Blount can be shutdown; we'll need Lewis to come back (and hopefully be as good as he previously looked)

Expecting that the Pats are going to win the AFC East..

If the Titans win the AFC south, we play in Foxboro next year.. so i'll get a trip in (as the wife wont be knocked up :pac:)

On a serious note i was reading earlier that Collins came to a practice with his hands in plastic bags as he had just got a manicure :P I doubt bill approved

I'd heard that he had plastic bags on his hands on the PFW (Patriots Football Weekly) show a few weeks ago, but not the reason why.
Maybe the plastic bags were a piss-take of himself (after a ribbing from team mates)?

Can we all at least agree that from what is known publicly, the trade makes no sense?
No one would have suggested trading Collins in season, 2 weeks ago.
It might be the most baffling trade I've witnessed in 10 years of following the Patriots since there isn't an obvious cap aspect to it.

It makes a little more sense to me now, but definitely wasn't something I could see coming.

Given they had plans to reduce his reps, combined with the salary negotiations starting off badly you can see why they would trade a player they knew they wouldn't resign.

The only real benefit I can see though to a trade now vs a compensatory pick is that a Browns 3rd round pick is a lot higher in the draft than a 3rd round compensatory one....

I just done a bit of research on Matt Lengel. He played college ball at eastern Kentucky which is nothing to write home about but he caught few nice passes and looked tough but the biggest thing about him was his run blocking which seemed exceptional.
He had a serous run of bad luck with injuries and he really could turn out to be a nice pick up. I'm just interested to see if he gets snaps to run block over the coming weeks.

So Trump claiming support from Bray and BB last night with the most ridiculous sounding endorsement I've ever heard.

He says Brady has already voted for him and ok'd Trump telling people at a rally....Brady has not voted and Gisele has commented on Instagram that they wont be supporting Trump.

The best bit is the letter from BB.
It's the least BB worded thing ever, clearly written by Trump himself...

I wish the guys would comment, but you know they'll keep quiet about it, commenting would only distract from Seahawks...

BB is supporting Trump and it's confirmed that BB wrote the letter to him. Don't really see any issue with that.

It's a weird one though, I have to believe that Trump paraphrased the letter in some way...no way BB wrote something using Trump style language.

BB opened his press conference with this:
“I’ve received a number of inquiries relative to a note that I wrote to Donald on Monday,” Belichick told reporters, via a video posted by Ben Volin of the Boston Globe. “Our friendship goes back many years, and I think anybody who has spent more than five minutes with me knows I’m not a political person, my comments are not politically motivated [but by] friendship and loyalty to Donald. A couple of weeks ago we had Secretary of State [John] Kerry in our locker room, he’s another friend of mine. I can’t imagine people with more different political views than those two. But to mean friendship and loyalty is just about that, it’s not about political or religious views. I write hundreds of notes and letters ever month. It doesn’t mean I agree with every single thing that every person thinks about politics or religion or other subjects. I form friendships that are important to me. That’s what that was about.”

    Then this after:

    Tyler Gaffney released.

It's almost as if we're freeing up a roster spot for somebody on Sunday :D

Time to pick Dion up in fantasy if ye haven't already

Only worry with Dion is his injury history which is very bad. I'd rather if we wrapped him in cotton wool until the postseason.

I'd kinda go with this approach. A few reps at a time, ease him back in. We have Blount and White, no need to rush him back. A fully fit Lewis in the playoffs would be a massive boost.

The worrying thing about the Lewis injury was it was a non-contact injury in an open field and that's never good for a player. Particularly a guy like Lewis and those brilliant jump cuts he could produce. His style puts big stress on the knee joint and because of that, I expect it to be sometime for him to look like the player he was last year. So ease him back gradually and hopefully by the playoffs he'll look like the lethal weapon we had last year.

Lewis is inactive. Glad we're not rushing him back.

Going to see what prop bets I can get on James White for tonight. I imagine he could hit overs on a lot of them.

We look like trash. D doing nothing, against an awful Seattle OL. Offense struggling now.

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 4,719 ✭✭✭JaMarcusHustle

Well that was probably the worst decision and throw of his career. What the **** was he thinking.

This game is impossible to watch. Between how sh1t we are playing and Al Michaels and Chris Collinsworth having hard ons for the Seahawks its painful

Gronk could be done for the day. He didn't look strong on his feet there. COuld be concussion protocol.
