Would be a good idea for ICBF to capture the data from all marts and put it in the website.

Even better but will probably take 10 years for this to happen.

So you pay more for having them assembled, collected, deliverd to SE.

Now you know how we feel in the west when we have to pay 25 for a bale of middeling straw.
I don't envy ye at all!

Na they won't go to the South east. Killmallock is much nearer and on the following Monday.

Mine would be the around the 660kg i hope. Neighbour had them booked into mart but got a **** pen number so cancelled. There is a man in balla that buys cows for finishing I might give him a ring see what he is paying

Top 5 bulls have another 5 then it's into the plain ones that's when you know how bad things are.

heading to castleisland with heifers tomorrow, dreading it. They're nice 1 1/2 to 2 year olds mostly lim and CH

Hearing that there is good value in Heifers at the moment, from this side of the ring anyway.

Might be an idea to have cattle finished before October next year if what looks like happening via numbers comes to pass.

Bringing out my bull weanlings tomorrow too and similar sense of dread tonight. Between loading and pen numbers and weights and then prices - I'd take any job other than going to a mart with cattle. Think you can live in a bit of a dream world farming most of year but it's when you go to mart or factory with cattle that reality of the current situation hits home..

Bought them for 1k avg sold for €1440 avg. Take €70 of meal off that to finish, whatever silage they ate (wouldn't know the true cost of silage when fertilizer etc is calculated I'm sure somebody here could tell me) for a 5 month winter, 6 months grazing (no fertilizer as low in stock), dosing, fixed costs etc.. Would I have €150 out of them?

You bought for 450 and sold for 1440.
    990 over your purchase price.
    70 for meal. No fertiliser.
Say MAX 11 bales silage @ 25 bale all in.
    275.
That's total of 345. Bit of vetinary stuff on top. You didn't even have to pay for a tag!!

Before fixed costs you have north of 600 margin per head.

That nice man who sold you black lims 450 at 450kg. I'd be keeping in with him if I was you.

You're getting a bit carried away there!! He bought them for an average of €1000 each and sold them for €1440. its possible he can't afford to retire just yet!!

I presume that they were not suckler stock as they only averaged 3.7/kg which was more or less the base price at present this year. If they were O+ cattle they weighted about 750 at slaughter. Fairly good weight gain of 0.85kg's/day over the whole year depending on land quality. I always include a grazing charge as between one year and the next you still have to replace P&K even if you do not do it this year you will have to replace it down the line..

Wintering costs on silage alone would be 1-1.4/day depending on quality and DM of silage. About 20 cattle that age will go through a bale a day of 25-28%DM silage and if they were hungry stores a tad more. In real terms you had about 40-100 euro out of them.

Sound. Yeah and they were cheapish at the time. Luckily the full time job pays the bills.

Yeah they would have been dairy breed but mostly r's. If I bought a few gates or done a bit of fencing never mind put up a shed or silage pit it wouldn't be long getting rid of whatever they left.
Have only a few pens of cattle to house to finish before Christmas. Undecided weather to buy anything this back end espiceally after looking at your figures over this last few days

There might be a twist in the two HE heifers, the grey charley and the Lm at the end.

Doubt it bar the grey ch
Both he had plenty dairy influence and 1 was 14
The lm at the end was butty and 14 born bought her this day last year 276kg 545 so didn't make me rich either. All got only silage and a shake of ration last winter and grass only from March

For the buyers there may be a twist in them four. They are the type of heifers that could be finished before end of January. If you put 80-90kgs on them and they killed 280kgs DW. You would want the post January price/kg for them to average 4.05 including HE premium on the herefords and all to make the QA.

480x.52=250kg dead weight. 3.75 base +12c for bb.=965 euro. If she was fat enough which I suspect if she was butty.

She want to be well fat doubt if she would kill 52% at that weight more likely 50% or less. She would still have been worth a gamble in the factory if you were QA. If she was O=2+ she would have prices ad below.

    240 X 3.63 (3.75 -0.24 +0.12)=871.

A butcher would have been the best option and more than likely bought her. He have paid 3.8 flat for her I imagine.

I think they have to be a minimum carcass of 280kg for to get qa.
