Surprised he stopped, most bikes have their number plate hidden with the tax disc (on purpose) and no way a squad car would get anywhere near to him.

Ah, but those cop Hyundai's are special....:)

N plate Micra doing 160kmh (100mph) given FCP... and the biker arrested for dangerous driving for doing 130mph?

you dont think the difference in speed makes one more serious than the other?

they're both speeding. micra doing 100% (or over) of its maximum speed. bike doing about 70%

both FCP. not arrested. Both serious speeding but 80 euro vs arrested and banned.. doesn't make sense

All of these "Limerick motorway" catches are on the northbound carraigeway of the M20 just at J4 Patrickswell, they park up on the on ramp and give chase to any speeders

For anyone who was wondering the technicalities of it.

Crazy speed at 9.30 in the morning.

They frequently have either another car or a motorcycle cop at the next slip road waiting.

Both are clowns but there is a difference between the two offences. That road has a speed limit of 120kph, the Micra driver was doing 40 kph over the limit and the biker was doing nearly 100 kph over the limit. It's a busy road especially at that time of the morning and there many slip roads with traffic joining and leaving the motorway. Speeding at 218 kph especially on a bike that other road users may not see literally until it's on top of them, is both idiotic and reckless. In my view that deserves a more severe punishment.

    In the micra vs biker.

What's worse something traveling at 94% of its top speed vs something at 82%.

Bear in mind design speeds eg brakes and tires built for speeds.

Where does it say she was driving a new bmw? :pac:

Most likely she's a scrote who picked up some 15 year old clapped out 3 Series that never had any intention to insure it, the media like to put in BMW to make it seem like she was loaded.

Go back to my post and read the first line.... :D One of the reasons i shouldnt, is that i read more than is written at times.

so an articulated lorry (despite their limit being lower.. but just for example of something that is absolutely not made to cope with speed) doing 150km/h is safer than a motorbike doing 161km/h?

You're sounding like the RSA with that kind of talk.

Isnt there here something in play as is in The Netherlands: going 50% over the speed limit and hand over your license (and car in NL)?
    Whether that is 80 in a 50 km/h or 185 in a 120 km/h zone, doesnt matter.

you know well what I'm asking.

    I'll ask it this way

is a brand new Audi S8L doing 161km/h more dangerous than a 2001 micra doing 155km/h?

the difference in speed was nearly 60kmh, not 6.

No you don't differentiate for different vehicles. You give them speed fines when they exceed the limit. If they are driving dangerously then charge them with dangerous driving. Approaching the absolute limit of speed for a vehicle is closer to dangerous driving than just breaking the speed limit in a vehicle capable of much more. They both should have been given FCP

By patww79s reckoning the Audi would be more dangerous. I'm just picking him up on what he said which to me is bonkers.

if the Audi in your example was doing 218kmh then it would be more dangerous.

You're joking? an audi S8 lwb could be doing 300km/h and be more controllable and able to react to a hazard than a micra rattling itself to pieces doing 160

there is a bit more involved than just the car. cars dont react to hazards. people do.

My point is I wouldn't like to be in the micra if it and to avoid something or brake hard.

The bike will pull up safely from that speed alot faster than the micra would from even 70mph.

Difference being that particular bike is designed for high speed.

Micra is designed for city/small road travel.

218 kph, or 135 mph on a Motorway, almost twice the speed limit. Crikey. At that speed, you're overtaking cars like they're standing still.

Glad he was arrested. At that speed you're not just a danger to yourself.

[edit: Sorry, just saw this posted a few pages back]

both would see you quite dead. airbags and seatbelts wont help your brain rattling inside your skull or your organs getting all messed up. going from 160kph to zero in an instant is a death sentence.

I really like this thread. keep them coming guys.

    Indeed.

Even at that speed, that bike wasn't even near full throttle.........

You don't want to acknowledge that as truth because, deep down in places you don't talk about at the Green Party, you want me on that road, you need me on that road. We use words like freedom, enjoyment, sport and community. We use these words as the backbone of a life spent instilling those values in our families and loved ones. You use them as a punch line. I have neither the time nor the inclination to explain myself to a man who rises and sleeps under the tax revenue and the very freedom to spend it that I provide, and then questions the manner in which I provide it. I would rather you just said "thank you" and went on your way. Otherwise I suggest you pick up a bus pass and get the ********* ********* off the road”
