Forget about colour or hair. Third bull is the business. He has averaged 1.25kg/day since birth. Great shape two. Of the three IMO he is the best animal.

Sure you'd buy 3 friesians for the same money!!!

I'd say the hair is there out of necessity! Can nearly smell the sea!

The first Buck is Fiston out of BB (BYU)X Lm dam

Second lad is Gurka out of an AA X LM cow

I agree with bass reeves the BB was not dear in the slightest .. He will be a horse of a bullock and thriving like train, I'm getting married soon, work very busy, all weanlings out the gap and couple of cows too

The BB doesn't get same competition around the ring as a hairy yellow/white, farmers don't like them.. I'd imagine he'd be some U+ bull @16 months slaughter job

I didn't say I buy him :D but he is the better of the three animals IMO. I am reluctant to have too much capital tied up in cattle. Buying Friesian 3 for 1K is more to my liking. To put it in context the eight bulls I bought cost less than the sale price of them and i am including mart fees as well.

They were as good as value as I saw that day. However I chance buying suckler heifers 200-250kgs for 2ish euro/kg if I come across them.

I haven't been into a mart in ages but what would you pick up for €2 kg? Hungry looking trad breeds? You'd hardly get a cont for that?

From what I heard it was Continental breeds cattle. I imagine that they were straight off the cow's. A lot of fellas taking cattle home at present

Measure in money. 70€ more. I'd prefer to get a good price for a "worse"calf(IMO the 1st calf is the type of calf I'd like to have all my calves like) than a bad price for a good calf

Great weight for Feb heifer calf to be fair.
Heifers have taken a bit more of a hit than the bulls I reckon.

I do . Have shed there ready if bad night but I'd leave all out or move to a separate sheltered spot rather than put them in. 3 years ago I had 4 January calves in and they robbed me on scour tablets and straw !!

Cow has some SH breeding in her so calf was never short of quality milk.

I was the same as that I was bringing every calf to the vet with scours, two years ago i decided calving outside couldn't be any worse. Once the cow is sick I put her in the yard and when she calves and the calf gets a suck they hit the field regardless of the weather. I had one scour this year and one last year and i saved both. I'm getting more calves on the ground and there weighting heavier at the back end than they used to

Was at a weanling sales Saturday, 250/60 kg Ch heifers making €750-800 depending on shape.
Anything half decent was making €700, only screws were making the sort of money you mentioned above.

Heard it from two different marts in Kerry. These would not be screws most would be later calves and not weaned from what I heard. Lots of rain last week along west coast. Dry week this week will make a difference.
