    That's shocking.
Considering the damage a truck can do when out of control that should be a minimum €500 fine for the lorry owner.

I think the authorities should start keeping cars when caught with no insurance. Anyone in a half decent car would never do it then.

The penalty just doesnt seem enough considering the amount of people driving around without it.

I think they crush cars that have been caught driving uninsured in the UK! Doesn't stop people driving hapes of shoite worth nothing though :)

no they don't in fact although certain tv programmes give that impression. If they aren't claimed (at substantial cost for storage etc) they are auctioned off if worth anything or crushed if not.

Cos jesus is a staunch advocate for those who can't be bothered with NCT, insurance etc. Prices are high cos insurance companies are ***** and nowt to do with the rampant irish compo culture in his world. Not a big believer in personal responsibility is our jesus.

    I swear, I didn't report them.. :p:D

On a serious note, it's good to see one less car like that on the road.. However, I don't agree with them covering the number plate. Name & shame, is what I say...

Here's an idea, anyone caught driving without insurance is added to a pool of names, they stay on this list for a set period of time based on severity of their insurance dodging

this list of people get the bill for uninsured driver claims every month split between all of them for the length of their stay on the caught uninsured list.

Because as it stands, they get caught and maybe get a fine of 500 euro, less than one years insurance cost, and they could have been driving uninsured for 10 years. Let them have a stay on the uninsured list for 5 years at 80 euros a month DD

As well as being banned from driving or whatever other punishments there can be.

One thing about this showing number plates on Twitter and on dashcam videos is that cars get sold, and other people will have that number plate. I would hate for someone to come up to me and give out about "me" driving with no insurance or driving like a dickhead if it was the previous owner responsible.

Gardai are out in force today with the speed vans, but not many detections, which is good.

Sad they now make up a name for it (to generate revenue)

It should be that day everyday....

Donegal has to raise its snout on European Day without Road Deaths. They really need to exclude Donegal from that to give it some chance of succeeding.

That's not fair tbh, Donegal is not the worst offender for road deaths. In 2015 there was probably 4/5 other counties ahead of Donegal. In 2016 I think Galway has the most road deaths.

It surely has to be up there per head of population, though?

I travel fairly regularly up to Donegal and as time goes on it frightens the life out of me more and more (crossing NI isn't far behind), I HATE being on the roads up there.
