    Hi Basil
Thanks for your reply. No I'm not intending to refund it just because I don't like it that was just an example. All I want is for the phone to work and sound like it should. I've I had to return an HTC one M9 bought on Amazon Germany because the overheating was just to much. I've had some bad experiences believe it or not I returned 3 LGV10 also bought on Amazon.de. Al bought using PH. As they were bought and fulfilled by Amazon I had no problems in returning and getting a refund (and they have a great English speaking Customer Service) but it was because of all 3 of them had technical problems. I want to thank you for sending me that link. HTC has the same voucher promotion in Ireland but the phone is €100 cheaper on their UK site. What a rip off.. thats why I buy electronics on Amazon.de I bought a pair of wireless (RF) Sennheisers 160 for €102 and they were selling in Argos for €224! The LGV10 (32GB) was selling on Amazon UK for £530 and on Amazon.de €456! The Irish consumer is forever being ripped off in everything it's Irish style unregulated capitalism I've never seen a a country so open to unfettered neo-liberalism it's becoming a nightmare. Anyway sorry for the off topic rant and thanks for the link I will be using PM like you mentioned and hoping that all goes well with the phone.
    All the best

    Hi
Apparently the promotion for the HTC 10 is only for UK residents. I mean it's incredibly unfair how can the promotion be €100 less than the equivalent promotion in Ireland. The phone is at €604 at Amazon Germany and is fulfilled by Amazon so you're buying from a marketplace seller but you get all of Amazon's protections regarding returns & refunds but the seller is in the US which is weird and maybe someone can help with the weird description:
    HTC 99HAJH018 One 10 (13.2 cm (5.2 inch AMOLED Display, 1440 x 2560 pixels, 12 Mega pixel, 200GB, Android Carbon Grey

First the screen is not AMOLED it's Super LCD according to HTC and does anyone know what the number after HTC mean being this a US seller and the 200GB which I can't imagine what it is maybe it's an offer for a 200GB SD card? I sent an email to amazon maybe they'll explain .
    Regards

Just use the HTC UK site with your Parcel motel address as delivery and billing addresses.

My new HTC 10 got a bit of a baptism recently! It recovered fine.

Took sim and sd cards out. Dried it carefully. It was working fine after that but there was moisture visible in both camera lenses. Applied v. gentle heat (put it in bed overnight).

It was perfect the next day.

    I think i dodged a bullet.

I installed the latest viper rom from Xda. WiFi is terrible on it. I get one bar reception upstairs which was always full 4 bars on stock and on my m8
I jumped to the wrong conclusion here. Turns out signal is bad on all phones. It just started happening at the same time as I got the HTC 10.
Must be a Wifi router issue

Hi, for anyone who ordered from the UK site with delivery through Parcel Motel via Antrim to Dublin, how long did delivery take? According to Hermes, my package was 'Delivered to a secure location' at 8am yesterday morning, but no word from PM yet, and it is not logged under recent activity on my PM account. I've contacted HTC and PM but still waiting to hear back... Thanks in advance.

There seems to be a backlog with parcel motel in general this week.. I had something delivered from hermes this week.. I got an email from parcel motel that it was at their Dublin depot Wednesday.. It hadn't been delivered to my Motel by this morning so I dropped into the depot and collected myself.. Guy there says things backed up this week for some reason

Mine was delivered to a secure location at 6 yesterday morning and arrived Dublin depot 6 yesterday evening. Didn't get it last night though - I emailed them and they said my motel was "at capacity".

This seems to be happening too often. I won't be using them again.

Parcel wizard is better I think. Delivered to your house and the courier always contacts you in advance and makes good effort to give to neighbours etc

I'll give it a try - I've also used the An Post one but that seems really slow.

My HTC arrived last night - they still have two other parcels that they received before the phone but I'm glad they delivered this first.

After setting up the phone this morning I put in my eir sim card and it messed up all my settings (which had automatically imported from a backup). Bastards. There doesn't seem to be any way to reverse this either.

My experience is definitely use Parcel Motel if you want things faster. 90% of the time, I get things the day they arrive up north.

Parcel Wizard are always at least a day slower, and usually deliver outside the window they tell you (although the courier marks it as delivered in time to keep his stats looking good, and to confuse the heck out of you :D).

One of my workmates used Parcel Wizard to the office this week, and it took 5 days from arriving in the north (2 days of that was the weekend).

Very impressed with this so far. I see the HTC Car app isn't compatible with the 10. Can anyone recommend a similar/better app?

Maybe I've been unlucky but Parcel Motel have been poor for me lately. Three items arrived up north on Thursday am. One delivered Friday night/Saturday morning, other two delivered late last night. I wouldn't mind paying the delivery fee for all three if they put them in the same locker to speed things up.

Was looking for one myself, when I did a search Automate and Ultimate Car Dock were recommended.
Haven't got a chance yet to try either or any other app.

Still undecided between the HTC 10 and S7/S7 Edge. After reading various reviews, going over the pros and cons of each device, it's a very tough choice. Although the S7 has stellar hardware and I do love the AMOLED screen, I'm still not a fan of TouchWiz and the fact that Samsung are abysmal when it comes to supporting their phones with updates, as well as the fact that they don't receive as much support from developers due to locked down source code.

HTC on the other hand have better support and I love the simplicity of Sense as well as the aluminium body and 24 bit audio support, although it's not IP68 rated. Current device is the Z3 which has served me well, and before that I had the M7 which was excellent.

My contract is up soon and considering moving provider. Sorry if this is too long, and if this post is better elsewhere feel free to move it Mods. :)

The reality is that you won't be disappointed with either.

I much prefer the feel of HTC, and I'm into the dev community side of things, which always keeps me going back. That said, I've owned 3 or 4 Sammy's, and generally have found them to be pretty good.

Ordered one of these last night from the UK site with standard delivery via parcel motel. Anyone know how long it usually takes? I can't seem to see anything about the standard option on their site.

Also any recommendations for a case and tempered glass protector?

Did you pay for standard delivery? Express delivery is free - I don't know why they have it set to that as default.

It said standard shipping was free and a fiver extra for the express option at the checkout. I'm away for a few days anyway so not in a huge rush.

Any idea of how the camera compares to the S7?

    Thanks

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 3,972 ✭✭✭Flaccus

I have both. The htc has the edge in image quality and has a superior selfie camera with optical image stabilisation but the back camera takes a long time to focus compared to the samsung. I think you will be happy with either.

Go to conclusion and read what Anand said about the camera

    Thanks.

Which phone do you prefer overall?

I have the M9, have never had a Samsung before.

2 months ago I preferred the HTC because headphone audio was important to me as I did a lot of commuting. I also liked playing around with rooting the phone, debloating it, and being able to mod heavily with stuff like Viper Roms. If neither of those are priorities for you I would get the Samsung.

    Overall I prefer the S7 for 3 reasons :

    1. The screen. Sure it's oversaturated but it's amazing, and Anand points out how meh the HTC 10 screen is. It's good but not great, through certainly much better than the M9. The 5.5 inch screen on the Edge is also very compact.

    2. The speed of the camera to focus. Taking pics is important and where I don't have a real camera with me, this suffices.

    3. Touchwiz. I know people give out about it, but it's miles better than previous Samsungs, and for me has no slowdown. I thought I would prefer the near stock android experience on the HTC 10, but Touchwiz has so many extra features I took for granted which couldn't be done without a custom rom on the 10. One that springs to mind is being able to sort your quick sitting toggles, and being able to have a nice top tray that scrolls horizontally.

What I don't like about the S7 is mainly not being able to easily root it so I can remove apps I don't like, same for the Flipboard/Briefing app but you can choose not to display it, just like Blinkfeed on the HTC. Also on the edge because of the curve and amoled there is every so slight discolouration down the edges. Very hard to spot.

I find the battery on both comparable.

I used to be able to get it to work using a technique posted here, but now I can't get it to work at all.

Really needed it the other day, was stuck in town and needed a bus but couldn't top up.

Has anyone managed to pick up a genuine HTC charging cable? I've not seen them for sale anywhere at all yet. Would like to get one for the car.

So do you think it is a HTC issue with the NFC or could it be an app specific problem?

I just picked up an Anker USB C cable as a spare. I actually find it better than my HTC one, the adb connection with my laptop is more reliable for whatever reason.

HTC issue, specifically with the 10 I'd say. M9 was fine, and I just tested on a workmates M8....no issues there.
