PSNI Recruitment - Stage 4 - The Medical

From what I gathered the Doctor only needed to see you to discuss any issues that came up in the first two rooms.

OK folks I was a little heavier recently at 93kg. Needed to get to 87.5kg to meet the bmi requirement.
I'm now pretty much borderline at 87.3kg. Has anyone failed on bmi alone? Can you be out of the running now due to being heavier even if you passed fitness with no issues?

My hair length is about 2cm on my head and not sure if I have enough in my armpits! Anyone know what happens if hair isn't at the required 3cm?

I got enough from my head but the SMT guy explained what would happen if I hadn't. Basically, they need to get hair from other parts of your body that makes enough of a sample of about the size of a cotton wool ball but not as dense. I think he said they only need one sample rather than the two they take for head hair.

This is an interesting one. The notes with the appointment letter says that if you are over BMI then you have to take the PCA, but we have all taken and passed the PCA to get as far as the medical so I dont know what they would do. I assume you would be OK?

Hello, I'm from a medical background & when we are calculating BMI we take your Lean to Fat ratio into account. So i'd say if you can pass the PCA with no problems, they shouldn't fail you on your BMI. I also have a few friends currently in GV or already passed through and their BMI's wouldnt have been within "normal" range!! Hope this helps

Haven't done my medical yet, it's next week! But I've been told it takes 3 weeks!

I had to see the doctor after my medical and he raised my BMI being high. I am 120kgs and was passed fit. Told to start more cardio work and he couldn't fail me because I passed the fitness test so people stop worrying about BMI it means nothing if you can pass the fitness test.

I do believe colour vision is something you can fail in. Where firearms are involved it's critical.

I read on a FOI they require 7/10 normal vision to pass, surely 3 incorrect doesn't make you fall under severe?

I wouldn't worry, I have been told on numerous occassions that I am severely colourblind yet I passed the medical in C1 and managed to get all the cards correct....I would imagine if you were fully colourblind that would be the only way to fail.

With regards to colourblindness and firearms it wouldn't really be that big of an issue as you can serve in the armed forces whilst being colourblind.

The ones with the numbers inside I would get all but one or two wrong but the test with the squares I seem to do well on, I'm also red green colourblind and it is at a level where I couldn't serve as an engineer in the army.

I can differeniate between colours and shades no problem in day to day life, the only time I have ever struggled is with those number cards.

If you do fail based on colour perception appeal it anyway.

This is a good read for those who haven't seen it before. No mention of eyesight in this one though.

Anyone any idea how long the medical results take to come through? I saw someone on here say they received an e-mail the same day but I've been waiting a few already.
