Hi all,
Vanilla are planning an update to the site on April 24th (next Wednesday). It is a major PHP8 update which is expected to boost performance across the site. The site will be down from 7pm and it is expected to take about an hour to complete. We appreciate your patience during the update.

    Later on the week it will get milder but the clouds will disappear making the sunlight more pleasant. However temperatures are below average for this time of year. July would usually be in the mid 20 s but this week they ll be in the mid to late teens.
    "And finally, some good news, Met Eireann predicts a warm and mainly dry weekend."

    Since when is Irelands weather for July in the mid 20's?
    and for the weekend on met.ie: Present indications are that the weekend will be unsettled and breezy at times with scattered showers and temperatures in the mid to high teens.

    Mid 20s in July is rare. I'd consider 24-27c, the mid 20s. Here's how rare such temperatures occur in July in Ireland.

    2015: 1st
    2014: 23rd-25th
    2013: 6th-13th, 17th-20th
    2012: 23rd, 26th
    2011: 27th
    2010: 25th, 26th

    See how rare it is? Jesus... man those reporters must come from Spain / France if they think mid 20s are normal in mid July.

    thats kinda depressing to think all we can muster is about 14 days of temps equal or above of 24C over the past 6 years!!!

    Even England and parts of Wales get several weeks of mid 20s most summers.

    Where's the weather exacta weather was forecasting on independent.ie last March?

    "Ireland could soon be set for another heatwave this coming summer according to Exacta Weather forecaster James Madden.

    Mr Madden who is infamous for his weather predicting abilities say’s the nation will expect sweltering temperatures this coming June and July."



    Same guy and also reported in indo said last Dec and Jan would bring extreme cold & heavy snow.

    Maybe, just maybe the indo needs to start employing real journalists instead of junior interns.

    Why do you consider 27 as being mid twenties but not 23 ? That seems rather inconsistent. Furthermore, your record of July temperatures in the mid twenties (based on your personal consensus of what is defined as mid twenties), is that based on records from your location, which is near the coast and therefore frequently subject to cooling sea breezes whenever relatively high temperatures are occurring or is it based on the average max temperatures of all official Met Eireann weather stations?

    Normal July (and August which is similar) daytime maximum temperatures would probably be in the range 19 to 21 C for most places in Ireland as the mean for max and min ranges from the low 16s in the south to the high 14s in the north. Even 23 is a bit on the warm side of normal in Ireland.

    The average temperatures were above normal in most of May and the first half of June and have been consistently about one degree below normal since mid-June, although the first of July was as much as five degrees below normal in some parts of the north.

    That is NOT my station like my max in July 2012 was only 21.4c. These dates were found out by Met Éireann's bulletins, also memory.

    Frequency plot for daily max temps during July at Claremorris, based on data from 1950 to 2015:

    As can be seen, temps in the mid to high teens are more frequently occurring than anything higher or lower during the month.

    As has been pointed out before, the Indo is in the business of selling newspapers, not giving reliable information. This is what journalism has become.
