Need some advice on travel in Australia

    Hi.

I'm looking for a little help to decide when to travel to Australia.

Basically, I'll be travelling out sometime towards the end of this year, or during the first six months of next year. I'm planning to meet two friends out there, but they have left it to me to decide when I should head out, then they'll adjust their plans as necessary.

I'm a little apprehensive about the weather. I don't do sun very well, and humidity's a killer. I'd prefer to choose a time of year which will give me the optimun conditions, not too warm, but not bloody freezing as well...

Plan is to fly to Sydney, travel up the east coast as far as Cairns, then either fly back to Sydney for return flight to London, or try to get a flight direct from Cairns home.

I'd appreciate any advice you can give me.

    Thanks.

Well our summer is their winter as you know.
I flew into sydney in mid june, and it was about 16-18 mostly sunny, comfortable t-shirt stuff.
But when it rained , it was bucketing( theres a lot of water in the pacific... )
Travelling North towards Cairns it will get hotter, especially as you hit queensland, , theres no avoiding that.
It's never freezing except in the snowy mountains.
But Melbourne that year was as cold as any Irish summers day, and it had snowed in Hobart.
Don't go in our winter as you will have temperatures in the 90's regularally and will need to be fond of lightning.

Sounds like what Id like to avoid...

Today I thought that maybe March would be a good time. Their Autumn? Anybody know if this is a good idea, bearing in mind the plan to travel Sydney to Cairns?
