Im assuming theres 2 different technologies at the other end of the line.

I recently failed (today) the test for Radsl (got mail from IOL) yet 2 weeks ago i passed for Esat business Adsl. Now i know my exchange is enabled for both. So why i pass one and not the other or am i gonna get a horrible shock tomoz when i ring to confirm my ADSL order. (getting new phoneline in tomoz for it)

slightly worried and fairly sure now that sommet will once again **** up.

that is strange.. cus 'radls' is supposed to give u more coverage.. more of a chance of getting dsl :/ ..

I'm glad I have an opportunity to clear this up.

There is no technical diff between what boards members are calling adsl and radsl.

Eircom's dslams are alcatel 7300s, I believe. These do g.dmt and ansi adsl. Your modem/router will tell you this.

The only difference is that the 'radsl' product is configured at the dslam to train up at a speed less than or equal to 512k. Where as the 'adsl' product is configured to only train up at 1024k. The lower speeds have greater reach.

hmm, Isn't RADSL running on G.Lite?

Not here with me. It could, but g.lite is just g.dmt limited to 1.5meg down so it can reach further.

The impression has been abroad that RADSL tests would be a bit more tolerant of our crappy lines than the (Eircom anyway) ADSL tests which were actually carried out on the basis of a 1mbit connection.

I suspect that the RADSL test is equally demanding. Others have passed the ESAT test on their line while failing all Eircom tests. If what you say is true, it strikes me that the RADSL test is pretty much the same rather onerous test as before.

By the way, has anyone ever ended up with a 256k connection, Eircoms minimum guarantee, after passing a line test? That would be worth a thread on its own I suspect.

If only there was a "www.adslguide.ie", sigh. or broadbandguide.ie

Haven't got the time myself, but would be happy to contribute, assuming these boards don't cover the area.

I mean in the style of adslguide.co.uk, with regular ISP performance monitoring, etc. as well as monitoring of the internals.

Maybe something could be done under the IOFFL umbrella.

Thanks for clearing that up :)
