All my friends have been telling me how good it was so I watched it last night. It's a decent film and has a relly good sound track BUT what's the fuss over?

I was told there was a twist at the end, but for me all the pieces seemed to fall into place after about an hour of the movie.
I don't think there was any time travel involved.

I think that Donnie, Frank and Grandma Death could see what was going to happen in the future.

Because of this Donnie could choose his own path - he mentions something about it in a conversation with the Physics teacher.

The same goes for Frank, which is why he saved Donnies life by taking him out of the house when the engine was due to fall and gave him the count down to the event.

Grandma Death (who wrote the Philosophy of Time book) also was able to see into the future, and knew that Donnie was going to be writing her the letter which is why she keeps going to the post box all the time.

When he sees that by remaining alive he would cause the deaths of his girlfriend, Frank, and that his mother and sister would die in the plane he chose instead to die himself.

    Did I miss something?

    Couple of problems with that....

Is it Frank pre or post getting shot that can see the future?
Coz its only the shot Frank that contacts Donnie.

If there is no time travel, where did the Plane Engine come from.

In fairness, if you look at the website, which ties into the film, you'll see the implications would contradict you.

    Thats explained on the website
The plane is being examined in England several years later and there is a conversation as to the specs on that plane matching up exactly with the specs of what crashed into the bedroom.

according to the director of the film... donnie is simply a super hero..... and that's how he does what he does

I don't know if the stories that have built up around D.D. were an after thought or if the film was created with everything preconceived but
from what I know, Donny is what is known as the "living reciever"

He was choosen to be this person by virtue of the fact that he was the person nearest to where the split between the two parallel dimensions/universes occured.

As the living reciever he has special powers over things such as time, water, fire and metal - kind of like a super hero, depending on how long the director wanted the interview to go on for.

As the living reciever it is up to Donnie to use the powers given to him to put everything right before everything collapses after the 28 days.
Not the best explanation in the world, but I'm sure someone else can elaborate. I haven't seen the deleted scenes so my knowlege is incomplete.
