Indemnity Insurance - Surveyors/Solicitors

I read a few days ago that (if purchasing a house) you should ensure any surveyor or solicitor acting on your behalf should have indemnity insurance.

Is this something I should actually ask any surveyor or solicitor, or would all have to have this anyhow?

If this is something I should ask, how do I know they are telling the truth, or how do I know that any such insurance is actually up to date?

It goes for all professions, particularly those in construction.

Hard to believe there would be professional practices operating without indemnity insurance, but there are cowboys in all walks of life.
