3 new channels have arrived

When I got up this morning I noticed the UK Gold, God Channel & Bravo have finally arrived on NTL Digital.

At the moment however God Ch doesent seem to be working properly and the tv listings for bravo isn't working.

Still no sign of AtTheRaces or any of the others yet though.

I cant see why thet didn't keep bravo in the entertainment section though like somewhere in the 120's.

And Bravo has some gems among its mostly rubbish programming. Babylon 5, for example. And theres McGyver... havn't seen that in years.

UK Drama is also included. It doesn't broadcast until 9.00 though.

I've just noticed that myself, but on the EPG their calling it "UK Dram".

I hope they fix it.

BTW, UK Dram(a) is on #170

Since all the new channels are in the entertainment section of the EPG, why aren't they on #122-126? That would seem to be reasonable. Maybe NTL have a Grand Plan for these (or more likely not...).

They do seem to have placed them on quite awkward numbers, but i probably wont watch any of them. I'd like to see CNX make an appearance

I'm not sure, they may arrive later tonight or tomorrow because UK Drama didn't arrive until about 6 or 7 o'c , but the other 3 were there since early this mornin'.

Bravo used to be like that, but they have toned down quite a bit since. (We're on incarnation number three or four of Bravo UK, they originally started out showing old 50s and 60s shows, "Timewarp Television" was their slogan. I remember the Avengerts been trailed on the channel before. After that was the soft-porn incarnation. Now we're on 80s TV mode).

Anyway, Granada Men and Motors really have that market cornered. Or so I'm told.

LivingTV is aimed mainly at women. Its' sort of like ye olde Lifestyle (remember that?). Only near-good programme on it IMO is Charmed. Used to show lots of Home and Away...

My guess is the remaining channels will appear over the next 4 weeks. From what I've heard there are many more to come with a total reshuffle of the epg later in the year.

No sign of the new channels in Galway either ... we are still waiting for the EMAP channels too! (Corrct me if i'm wrong, but weren't the music channels supposed to be added on August 14 last?).

Anyhoo, according to NTL, there are 'no plans at present' for the carriage of the extra channels here because of 'an ongoing technical difficulty which technicians are working to resolve'.

Apparently they will be on before the end of the year ... well, thats what they said about Carlton Cinema and Front Row in 2001.

Living TV has become more mainstream over the last few months. As well as Charmed, they also have new episodes of Will & Grace and CSI.

I watched McGyver last night and there was huge chunks of the car chase from 'The Italian Job' edited into it

This is a pretty dissapointing line up of additions. Bravo & UK Gold look to be the best of a bad lot.

I *think* it was a channel set up when Freeview sterted up in the UK - this is the description from the Freeview website "Ftn is full on entertainment with an eclectic mix of gritty reality, celebrity gossip, award winning comedy, full-on-talk and hard hitting drama."

Flextech Television - essentially to give Flextech an outlet on the Freeview platform. Hence nothing that costs anything much is shown...

Still they've got the Tonight Show (also on CNBC Europe), Dilbert (clever cartoon comedy, pity it got cancelled after one season), thirtysomething (you may remember that from the 1980s), and Ricki Lake (if you're into that sort of thing).

UK Gold 2 has Quantum Leap on it...

Nick Replay is just Nick + 1. I would have prefered if they had started with some one the channels we're still missed (Trouble being the biggie) before adding the Plus Ones...

I have just sent this missive to NTL and I'd like others to write to mark.mohan@ntl.com Mr Mohan is the sales and marketing director at NTL.

I am writing in the light of customers outside Dublin not being able to receive the various "new" channels which have recently been added to the line-up. I live in Waterford and we hav'nt got any
new music channels, we never saw Front Row or Carlton Cinema and now the latest add-ons are being denied us (I understand Galway is in a similair postion).

I would like NTL to explain why I and my fellow non-Dubs should be forced to pay the same rates for a lesser service.

If I dont get a satisfactory response i.e. a commitment to give us these channels with hard dates, or if thats not possible an acknowledgment that Go Digital pricing should and will be cut in Galway and Waterford, then Comreg will be my next port of call.

I know it proberly wont nake a blind bit of differnce
but if we dont try...

Not really excited by these channels. Nice addition having ftn. But is doesn't make sense having those +1 channels taking up bandwidth. And whats with uk bright ideas, only broadcasts up to 6pm! Perhaps it will share with uk drama which only starts at 9pm. Thats something I could never understand about cable and sat channels; have one "channel" seperating the output into grouped hours and voilá you now have 2 or more channels! That's like RTÉ promoting DenTV and ID as seperate TV channels and N2 only broadcasting in the evening.

I thought the new channels were suppoosed to be using bandwidth that was created from taking Sky sport off the analogue service.

So where have Sky Premier WS and the On-demand (movie)channels gone. And they are just the ones I noticed. And as for new channels. Something that starts broadcasting at 9pm is NOT a channel. Is a part-channel, its a gesture, it takes up bandwitdth for most of the dat without showing anything.

And as for the +1 channels.

Well its not NTL's fault about Sky Prem w/s coz it was sky themselves who got rid of it, coz all their movie channels are now widescreen.

I do agree with u about the channells srarting @ 9pm & the +1 hr channels. (their junk)

UKTV's new channel for Freeview will be called 'UK Bright Ideas', DS can confirm.

The station, which will launch on January 15, will broadcast for six hours from 10am daily on channel 19.

Its schedule will be composed of shows from UK Style and UK Food, with programmes such as Buying Style, Gardens Unplugged, Good Food Live Highlights and Style File rotating in two hour cycles on weekdays. The weekend loop includes Tooled Up, Gardens By Appointment, James Martin Delicious and Weekend Away.

A general entertainment station, f tn, will occupy the remaining 18 hours of airtime on the channel

Well, the other new channels have arrived! Except Nick Replay, which appears to be missing.... (And yes, Attheraces.tv is there).

FTN is not working at present.

What's surprising is that NASN has also arrived (#176). That must be too good to be true (for sports fans, that is). Will it be encrypted soon, I wonder...

Zee TV has also been added, but isn't working.

Latest on ICDG shortly.

Ill definetly be watcging Zee TV.... but i guarantee u this...within a month or 2 it will be subscription based as it is on sky digital and cable in england..

NTL have UK Gold+1 24 hours a day. that would be a god send on Sky. we don't get it until 7pm

No they don't, currently UK Gold + 1 is on intermission and programs do not start until 7. Just like Sky.

Also should mention some corrections to the above:

UK Drama is 21:00 to early morning.
Nicktoons TV is 7am to 7pm
Nick Replay is 7am to 11pm.

Attheraces varies its start time, but usually ends round midnight.

Has anybody noticed that on UK Gold +1 and on UK Gold 2 the picture keeps stopping and starting every few seconds (A lot more than the other channels anyway) ?

It's nearly impossible to watch a show on it while its doin that.
