Mate I dont know whats going on but why leave a player of Rivaldo's class and ability on the bench for the champions league final?
Rivaldo was none to impressed with that we can all presume and I wouldnt be surprised if he is on his way out of Milan in the summer

i think its because he just doesnt fit into Milans formation of playing and would disrupt the balance of the team

but yeh i can see him going in the summer. to whatever club will pay his ridiculous 100,000 grand a week wages

    Oh he does fit in....

But could he take Rui Costa's place? I think not. *I* think not....

The result meant an aggregate win of 6-3 although Francesco Totti's early double had given Roma some hope. However, the outstanding Rivaldo pulled one back with a close-range header before Pippo Inzaghi leveled the scores and secured the cup double.

I didn't see the game, worthwhile of a mention in the thread though :)

Rivaldo is (was) a quality a player. Costa is a very similar footballer, and from what I've seen, shows nothing but class on the pitch. Consistently.

He is good enough to leave, and move somewhere he can command a first team place. Where though? Houllier already said no thanks (Liverpool are clearly well over stocked with creative midfielders.). Maybe he can play alongside junihio, boro have a history of signing players like him....

Milan can't sell him, he is thier only back up for Shevchenko/Inzaghi since Tomasson is out for up to 7 months and Boriello has too little experience to play in the champions league.
I think Carlo will have to have a look at his tatcits and realise that they need a change.
Yeah for the start of the saeason they were awesome, but as soon as clubs realised that if they closed down Pirlo (and his mindbogglingly accurate passes) thay milan find it hard to attack because Rui Costa plays so far upfeild, sometimes he is almost like a third striker and Gattuaso and Seedorf dont have that creative spark need to attack very well.
But if he does go (which I doubt because he has told meny, meny people he has no plans to leave and that he is very happy at Milan) I think Milan may tak Luca Toni from Beriecia or maybe sign Muzzi, because at Milans level you need quality players as back up.

I think Rivaldo's contract is only a year long 1 so he can leave under the bosman ruling if he likes!! If he stays he could play a more midfield role instead of Pirlo maybe. Or move costa to midfield and put Rivaldo behind the strikers.

You think a club like milan are stupid enought to give someone an E2million signing-on fee for as one year contract?
    He signed a 3 and a half year contract @ 65k a week + 2m sign-on.

+ he has said meny, meny times that he doesn't want to leave and Milan have said that they consider him vital for thier plans for next season.

    From acmilan.com

    ADRIANO GALLIANI ABOUT RIVALDO
    06/01/2003 18:50

TROPEA (Vibo Valentia) - 'We all have seen how much Rivaldo has improved and the way in which he approached the return match against Roma,' Adriano Galliani tells during Milan's 2003 workshop. 'He scored a goal, a cross and laid the basis for Totti's second yellow card. I don't want to say that without him the Coppa Italia success would have been in balance, but he was certainly essential for Saturday's game.'

    And also from acmilan.com

    ADRIANO GALLIANI ABOUT TRANSFER MARKET
    06/01/2003 18:41

TROPEA (Vibo Valentia) - At his arrival in Calabria Milan chief executive Adriano Galliani has been immediately asked about transfer market. 'Beckham? It is impossible that he joins Milan because he has a contract with Vodafone for two more years and this brand is a competitor of Milan's sponsors. His personal contract is so high that we cannot intervene. However, in general, I confirm the idea that it is better for Milan to sign experienced players who have already impressed. It is not easy to find 20-year-old youngsters who are able to make an impact at the San Siro. Great stars like Maldini who made an instant impact or like Gattuso who has been gradually able to win over our supporters are not very common. Sacchi? He is a close friend and is always welcomed at Milan, but at the moment there is nothing between him and our club.'

GALLIANI: 'No new signings in attack'
    06/02/2003 16:34

PARGHELIA - The main subject of the press conference was the transfer market and Adriano Galliani had no doubts, as he said: 'We will sign an important defender, not Chivu because he is a half-back and we are covered in that role. In attack the only two big names are those of the players who made us win the Champions League. Who will quit? Of course the players whose contract are expiring'

PARGHELIA - Adriano Galliani looked better-intentioned to reconfirm the talents of this season than to chase for new ones: 'Abbiati is out of transfers, he will stay at Milan until I am chief executive. He was decisive against Inter in the Champions League and clinched the Coppa Italia, playing the final. We will have a 25-men team. The added value at Milan is the attachment to the shirt, we will keep our stars without signing new ones. We will refuse any offer for the first 15 or 16 players of the team, unless they ask us to be sold.' The non-transferable players? Serginho, Rui Costa, Shevchenko. And Galliani concluded: 'I believe that this season the key for success was the signing of Nesta: with him in defence we conceded less goals.'

And as we all know, Adriano Galliani is the man who makes the signings (on the advise of His managers and coaching staff, but mostly on his own whime), hence the signing of Rivaldo and Shevchenko, Boban, Baggio, Weah etc... the man knows how to play the market!

(forgot some last time  )

    Some interesting quotes there.

"The non-transferable players? Serginho, Rui Costa, Shevchenko"

Strange that Nesta and Maldini weren't listed there.

Gonna buy a new defender... I was fairly sure they were gonna try get Chivu... can't really think of any other defender who'd suit the team tbh.

He was just stating that players that a lot of clubs have been linked with were not for sale.
And nesta and Maldini are never going to be made transferable, it goes without saying, thats like Real selling Raul, or Juve selling Del peiro. it's just not going to happen.

I don't think you can quite put Beckham in the same bracket as Raul or Maldini/Nesta, I mean, he is a thousand miles away from thier stature or talent, it would be more like Man yoo lessing Giggs five years ago, which wouldn't have happened.

I think that was a perfectly accurate comparison. Beckham is as big a name as Nesta in world soccer easily.

He is a "big name" he is is hardly the best in his posistion in the world though.
I know someone is going to say "But Lazio sold Nesta, and thats the same thing" but Lazio were in a lot of debta and HAD to sell big players for big money(Nesta for €30, Crespo for €27).
    There is a big differance.
