Wondering if anybody has bought equipment from www.bhphotovideo.com

Was looking to purchase an item for $900 and needed to know, what would be the duty on it ?

Tried e-mailing revenue commissioners but no response !!

    Cheers for your help.

I have bought from B&H a number of times, and luckily never got caught out.
Import duty from The States is only in the 2% to 3% range, however, the real killer is the VAT at 21% which you also have to pay.
So your $900.00 purchase will probably end up costing about $1100.00

In the past An Post basically ignored any packages that came in from The States with a value of less than €300.00 on the customs declaration. But, they do not have the contract anymore for delivery of parcels sent via US Mail. Some private firm look after delivery now and are somewhat anal about the collection of VAT/duty.
This company were featured quite a bit after Christmas on Liveline; a lot of people rang in saying they had to pay VAT/duty on presents sent by relatives!

Can you not find the item you want in Europe?

Its available over here too Samson. It's a Mini DV Sony Camcorder, but I could save up to €500 !! I'll just have to get out the ole pocket calculator to see if its worth bringing over even after the import duty added on.

    Thanks for your help.

New York Camera in Germany have it for €1095.00 which is probably around the same price you will end up paying from the US.

Although, on second thoughts, given the current strong position of the Euro, you might save a few bob buying from B&H.
