In the light of recent ComReg action against radio stations in the Dublin area, Phantom FM have voluntarily ceased transmissions on our FM frequencies. We hope to resume full service as soon as possible.

Just an ignorant Yank here ... ComReg sort of like our FCC?

Kind of curious about all this. Seems sort of silly, but I suppose something similar could happen back here in the States.

Is there an e-mail adress for the radio board guys who award liscences so we can bombard them with e-mails to show them how wrong they are?

No, that is something you really don't want to do.... just sit back and wait for Pete and the lads to decide on their next move. Let them do what is neccessary unless they come looking for our help, as bombarding the regulator could do more damage than good...

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 7,221 ✭✭✭BrianD

We would appreciate it if you did not bombard either the relevant authorities or other licenced radio stations with emails/telephone calls at this point in time. WE understand your fustration with the situation but such an action would be counterproductive.

Thanks for your continued loyalty and support.

Yet again, some guy in an office somewhere who has no idea about music, makes a decision that effects us all.

Good luck guys with getting back on air!

what if they target Phantasm next??

Im planning on going along tonight at some stage!
I just know ill walk into Whelans and be surrounded by all these old guys in bad suits, requesting Boyzone cos they think they're still at the cutting edge of music.

Still, wouldn't be as hard tog et to the bar. Those guys would all be trying too hard to keep control of their bladders.

have I wandered off topic a bit?

    boyzone... ah, they're sorely missed.

yeah guys, this is really sad, i keep turning on the radio to check but it's always just sorta CSSZZCHHHHCCHHCZZ-like.

so hope this all works itself out, keep fighting the good fight!

    xx

Power to the People! The Phantom will never die.

I'm so lost now. I don't know who to listen to on Internet Radio. There are so many choices, and so much mediocrity. I loved the Irish rock that the Phantom played. It had such a great sound to it. I look forward to the grand re-opening of the Phantom.

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 46 butterflywings

there has to be something that can be done to save the phantom, seriously, it's such a big part of so many people's lives (not least those of us who don't have one) &it's so so so so wrong that they can force this sorta ****...

ok, so if emails are counterproducrive, and petrol bombs and emails are fairly far apart so far as things in general go, therfore, may bombing the ComReg building (I'll find it, God dammit...) be the solution to the problems?

    if not, good luck.

Does the BCI control web casts as well? I don't understand why Phantom can't continue to transmit over the web? I really need to hear it! I am having a miserable week at work without it. The stupid metal building I work in blocks all of the normal radio so all I have is the web radio and I can't find anything that I like half as well! Come back soon!

    Oh crikey, this is awful.

    I'm really actually heartbroken.

Phantom woke me up in the morning, kept me awake driving to work, got me home in the evenings, Pete and Pete dispelled my Sunday night misery at having to get up in the morning......

Best of luck with this, I'm keeping my radio tuned to 91.6 listening to fzzzzzzzzzwheeeeedlewhuzzzzzz just as a show of solidarity.

'Last night....everything was right, the rain was gone....so shut your eyes, when you wake up I'll be gone.....'

The whole purpose of this weekends temporary return to FM is to let people know that they will be continuing on the web only..

You guys where no harm to anybody..
what they did to all the stations was very wrong
they should have given you guys your license 4 years ago!!

But instead they gave it to the people witht the most bucks..

no other service has or will ever equal phantom..you guys mean a lot to a lot of people!!

Hey , i can't belive your shutting down again, i remember the last time and it was a blow. who will play Metallica or Iron Maiden no other station does! Good luck to pete and the guys and make sure the next move u take is a good one. Always believe in yourself even if u are just the "little guys" in the world of radio.

    Luv Metalish xx

Arse! That's all I can say.

You just don't know what you've got till you lose it.

In a moment of weakness, I tuned into the alleged licensed 'alternative' station for Dublin the other day. A mistake I won't be repeating. "You asked for it"? I asked for that like a lame wildebeest asks a pride of hungry lions for a game of chasing. Utter crap.

In 2003, a crack commando unit was taken off the air by comreg for a crime they didn't commit. These men promptly escaped a maximum security stockade to the Dublin underground. Today, still wanted by the government, they survive as soldiers of fortune. If you have a problem, if no one else can help, and if you can find them, maybe you can hire...Phantom fm

Keep fighting the good fight !

what happened when that country fm crap went down, and phantom was supposed to get the licence?

Fight the Power... there is no alternative.

Hope phantom gets back where it belongs - the first station tuned in on my stereo - before too long. Good Luck..

who or what excatly is comreg by the way?

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 16 Elaine

Hope to hear you back on the airwaves soon!!!:D :D

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 50 ✭✭saintgaz

who or what excatly is comreg by the way?

Short for Communications Regulator. Until last December they were known as the ODTR (Office of the Director of Telecommunication Regulations). Basically, if it's got anything to do with radio in this country, they are the law. That includes granting mobile phone licenses (mobile phones are technically just fancy 2-way radios). The latter is where they make their money, well that and the big commercial stations like RTE. So really they don't give a toss about providing a varied public service, just getting the cash in for Charlie to waste is their priority. And it shows...

Can IU just register my frustration by saying AAAAAAAAAAAAAAGH!!!!!!

Will the regulators ever let us listen to good music in peace???

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 735 ✭✭✭beardedchicken

my dial is still stuck on 91.6 FM, the space formerly occupied by phantom. i am more willing to listen to static than the garbage served up to us by "legitimate" radio stations.

i think anyone who supports phantom should do likewise, and not listen to any other station- if "legitimate" stations are worried about losing listeners to phantom and other pirates, we should show them that they never had us in the first place!!!!

    Very valid point....

I built an antenna from meccano to listen to phantom. They went off the air.
It's impossible to listen online in work cos Web-radio channels have been blocked out.

I've got no phantom and I'm going insane! My radio just hisses, It's got 20 programmable channels and they're all tuned to phantom.

come back No-one else plays the wierd stuff I like.

    In short.... This Sux!!!
