if you know people who have i-stream there shouldnt be a problem with you getting netsource as they are only resellers of i-streams radsl service and use eircoms lines anyway

get back onto both netsource and eircom its a delaying tactic

I don't think they are re-sellers. They have their own bandwidth AFAIK and are using eircom's wholesale bitstream unbundling service to transport the bandwidth to the customer location.

ye i picked the self install option, can get i-stream and esatbt broadband here but if you go over the cap you your bill will be crazy if they enforce it, so just gonna wait for netsource to sort it out . hopefully i will get word this week as my linksys wireless modem-router (befdsr41w) arrives in a few days. is there anyone in eircom i can ring to ask whats the delay at my exchange ?

When you ring netsource they ask you for your eircom account number and telephone number.

The operate out of eircoms exchnages, I know this because the guy in netsource told me that if i cant get it with eircom I cant get it with them, so they are resellers im afraid

    regards

passed the line test for eircom and netsource ,which is the same thing i think, so just waiting for e mail saying ,you will be connected in ten days time .

    1) They don't "operate out of eircom's 'exchanges'". They use eircom to deliver service over the last x kms. All they need is a connection to agreed eircom points of presence to squirt their ISP feed at their customers.

    2) "I know this because the guy in netsource told me that if i cant get it with eircom I cant get it with them, so they are resellers im afraid"

They are using eircom's wholesale bitstream product to deliver. If i-stream is "out of range" so will all other DSL ISPs who use the same eircom delivery platform.

If Amazon.com used UPS.com to delivery books and UPS didn't deliver in Ballsbridge there would be no point ordering a book from Amazon.com if you lived in Ballsbridge. This would not make Amazon.com a reseller of UPS courier services.

shinzon, what the guy meant was exactly what zz03 has been saying.
Read up on how DSL is delivered in this country.
Esat have their own equipment in their exchanges and have full control over it.
Netsource use Eircom copper and DSLAMs in the exchanges to connect your home to whatever backhaul they use.

Of course they do, but it is more complicated then just being a simple reseller.

I believe it works as follows:

    1) You plug you DSL modem into your phone line, which is owned by Eircom.
    2) Your packets travel down this line to your local telephone exchange where your phone line terminates at a DSLAM.
    3) If your local telephone exchange is not a regional pop (it could be however) then your internet packets are carried by an Eircom backhaul line to your closest regional pop (I believe there are about 10 around the country).
    4) At the regional pop your packets are transfered onto a netsource / IOL backhaul line.
    5) Your packets now travel on the netsource / IOL backhaul to either the Netsource or IOL headquarters.
    6) At the Netsource or IOL headquarters your internet packets are routed onto the big bad internet (probably through INEX for Ireland destined servers, or onto the ISPs carrier for international destinations).

So you see your packets travel on Netsource / IOL equipment for at least half its journey. Therefore they aren't simply reselling Eircoms service, only part of it (the last mile part).

On the other hand it seems www.adslnow.ie
and www.elive.ie are simply reselling Esats LLU products, everything runs over Esats network, I assume they get a few bob for every customer they get for Esat.

Back on topic, has anyone actually been given a definite install date yet.
I was assured the it would be this friday "at the latest"

i can't bring myself to believe it

    *bump*

Anyone outside the pale get their line enabled yet?.
    I know I'm still waiting.
On another note, my line qualified for eircons ADSL product today, so it looks like they've fixed the issue with testing ISDN lines.
17 working day lead time on an installation though, and with bank holidays coming up and knowing eircoms history I read that as at least a month.
