(sorry, couldnt really find a place for this in the music forums)

    Hi,
Im makin a cd for my friend and im lookin for some super cheesy eighties songs. Its kind of a private joke weve had for ages, we sing freestyle eighties songs line for line.

Think meatloaf. Gratuitous guitar solos and deplorable lyrics are a must.

Also, if ya have time, some eerily nostalgic early ninties dance tunes, also cringefully bad lyrics.

so far i have "everybody dance now", "ive got the power", "informer" and some scatman john ones.

    Thanks guys.

Wasn't "Informer" by Snow and the various Scatman John songs from the mid 1990s?

99 Red Balloons (German version if possible)

    Anything by A-Ha

    Karma Chameleon

Wake me up before you gogo

That's all I can think of offhand but they'd make it on to my cheesy 80s CD.

99 red balloons was banned AFTER 9/11 i am guessing becaUse these are the lyrics:

    99 Red Balloons (English version)

You and I in a little toy shop
Buy a bag of balloons with the money we've got
Set them free at the break of dawn
'Til one by one, they were gone
Back at base, bugs in the software
Flash the message, "Something's out there"
    Floating in the summer sky
    99 red balloons go by

99 red balloons FLOATING IN THE SUMMER SKY
    PANIC BELLS ITS RED ALERT
THERES SOMETHING HERE FROM SOMEWHERE ELSE
THE WAR MACHINE SPRINGS INTO LIFE
    OPENS UP ONE EAGER EYE
    FOCUSING IT ON THE SKY
Where 99 red balloons go by

99 DECISION STREET, 99 MINISTERS MEET
    TO WORRY WORRY, SUPER-SCURRY
CALL OUT THE TROOPS NOW IN A HURRY
THIS IS WHAT WE'VE WAITED FOR
THIS IS IT BOYS, THIS IS WAR
THE PRESIDENT IS ON THE LINE
As 99 red balloons go by

    99 Knights of the air
    Ride super-high-tech jet fighters
    Everyone's a Silverhero
    Everyone's a Captain Kirk
    With orders to identify
    To clarify and classify
    Scramble in the summer sky
As 99 red balloons go by

    99 dreams I have had
In every one a red balloon
ITS ALL OVER AND I'M STANDING PRETTY
IN THE DUST THAT WAS A CITY
If I could find a souvenier
Just to prove the world was here...
And here is a red balloon
I think of you and let it go

still a great song especially goldfingers cover of it

i ,ust admit, a simple search on google threw up some class albums withthose on them.
if i were to spend all day i would come up with some interesting ones. most likely stuff by spandau ballet, tears for fears, depeche mode, duran duran, sig sig sputnik, kylie, jason, all the other neighbours people who made crap songs, abc, fergal sharkey, the (late) specials, queen, bros, paul young, lara branigan, pat benitar, starship, yazoo, alison moyet, erasure, petshop boys, a-ha, blinda carlisie, tiffiny (god i fancied her rotten!) debbie harry, OMD, ultravox, t'pau, frankie goes to holywood.

bloody hell, just singing songs of each of those in my head.
thats ia trip down memory lane.
and there are so many others.
remember paul king from mtv fame? dead or alive?

    ahhhhhhhh!
    i have to stop!
    80 tastless music overload!
    i love it!

" where have all the good men gone...wheres the street wise hercules...isn't there a white knight upon a fiery steed (oooooo) late at night i toss and turn and dream of what i need"

    Chaka Khan - I feel for you {classic 80's video too }

    De la Soul - me,myself and I
    {reputed to be the first hip hop song - unclarified at this time...}

Jump has a good solo too. All 80's solos are fairly good tbh.

( Yes there are some bad songs here but .... )

I ain't pointing fingers, but it strikes me that some people are embarrassed for liking "80s" music and seek to justify their mp3 collection of said as 'ironic'. Or equally, taking a stance of sneering elitist disdain. Just looking back at the many 80s songs posted here and I see a large selection of good songs and songs with original, catchy hooks.

No wonder the present day crop of pop 'artists' are ransacking them for remixes / covers / hip-hop choruses.

Apols for going a bit off-topic, but what do others here think?
