Future Kings Of Spain - Your Starlight

The new single - CD / 7” vinyl
    (Red Flag Records)

    Released: Monday 9 June 2003

Track list: 1. Your Starlight 2. Kick It 3. Let’s Wait A While

Irish trio FUTURE KINGS OF SPAIN precede the release of their eponymous debut album with their second blistering single - Your Starlight backed with new tune Kick It and an eclectic cover of Janet Jackson’s Let’s Wait A While.

If ever a single showcased a band’s versatility then it has to be this one. The lead track on the new Future Kings Of Spain single - Your Starlight - first surfaced as a B-side to their debut release ‘A Place For Everything’. So critically acclaimed were both initial tracks, that ‘Your Starlight’ was then re-recorded last Christmas with Ted Niceley (producer of Fugazi) and Eli Janney (Girls Against Boys) for the album. What could be a early 90’s retro classic, Your Starlight is a hook-filled, power-chorded, fuzzy-edged, beefcake of a single...with just a hint of melancholy and a heavy daub of melody.

Second track ‘Kick It’ is pure Future Kings Of Spain...screeching, jagged and utterly unrelenting. A band reaching their zenith, Future Kings have delivered a track that not only shows the new rock revolution, AC/DC wannabes what is what but also references classic American new wave.

The hat-trick is completed, though, with a complete surprise move – a cover of Janet Jackson’s ‘Lets Wait A While’ - which, unlike the original, manages to display both tenderness and depth.
