kind of in the assassin genre I would have to say the killer elite.

Robert Duvall and James Caan and directed by the crazy genius Sam Peckinpah (who likes his slo-mo)

some great one liners as well as ninjas. (if you like that sort of thing)

Your thinking of The Assassian, which is an English remake of Nikita.

It's the story that attracts me to Assassians (what more casn you expect from the Wachowski Brothers). I agree the cast wasn't up to scratch but Donner did a good job with a very good story

    Yes...
It would prob be Edward Fox in The Day Of THe Jackal
or perhaps Ed Harris' Major Koenig In Enemy Of The Gates(a hitman of sorts?)

The Day Of The Jackal is an excellent film. Just avoid the poo remake with Bruce Willis and Richard "Im a nice IRA terrorist with a bad accent" Gere.

    Boiling Point
    Enemy at the Gates
    Léon
    Grosse Pointe Blank
    (La Femme) Nikita
    The Replacement Killers
    The Whole 9 yards
    The Limey
    Gangster No. 1
Lock, Stock and Two Smoking Barrels

There is also a French comedy along the lines of Léon which is absolutely hilarious, that I saw in the IFC, I can't remember the name. Not quite the same genre, but "The Way of the Gun". Also "Very Bad Things", "Bulworth" (other side of coin), Apocalypse Now (overall feel).

I think El Mariachi has to be up there. I've never actually seen Leon so must go get it now.

The Whole Nine Yards was a great ''don't take it so seriously'' film. Really enjoyed that.

    Ghost Dog

    Leon is an absolutely masterpeice...

And The Killer with Chow Yun Fat.

Infinetly superior to the slop thrown out by John Woo these days.
