I would recommend the following website, I used them to book an apartment and they were brilliant, plus they have reasonably priced accomodation. I would recommend trying the following areas Barri Gotic, La Rambla or La Raval regions.

I prefer to contact the hotels directly rather than go through an agency web site. I feel that I'd get a better rate if I contact them direct. Although this may not be the case anymore as agency help a hotels occupancy rates so they must get discounts.

Anyway, Barcelona, great place - love to go back there again. When I was planning a trip there I used the City web site http://www.bcn.es/ - it has an English section so don't panic. It also has a map section - http://www.bcn.es/guia/welcomea.htm - which will help you locate all the 'services' you need including accommodation, including hotel web sites and email addresses.
