Hyperhydrosis (Profuse Sweating)

I am a sufferer of the above affliction.
Basically its an overactivity of the sweat glands.
It mostly affects the hands ,feet and armpits.
It seems the condition affects 1% of the population and can be hereditary .
My Aunt has the condition as does my younger brother.
Basically it is an involuntary reaction .
Obviously under stressful conditions the situation becomes worse and my hands are literally covered in water.
Its a tough condition to put up with and I am hoping to undergo surgery ,Endoscopic Transthoracic Sympathectomy to relieve it.
It is a relatively straightforward procedure whereby an incision is made under either armpit and a probe is inserted which either clamps or severs a number of nerve cells.
I was wondering if anyone had undergone this procedure and what were the results.
    Many Thanks

Dont suffer from it but I gotta empathise with you there. An incision to the arm pit sounds painful as fúck. I sometimes sweat excessively as well. Even when I am cold the stuff písses out of my arm pits, my hands are nearly always clammy and so are my feet.

Anyways, best of luck with it. My thoughts are with you.

    K-

Kell you sound like you could be a mild sufferer .
Most of the time my hands are dry ,bone dry.
When they act up can depend on any number of factors, heat, cold, stress, anxiety sometimes no reason at all.
Funnily enough when I play sports I dont sweat that much at all.
The surgery is performed under local anasthetic and generally can be performed on a day trip.
Takes about 1 hr to perform.
I've looked at other alternatives but this would seem to be the best.
Alternatives are deodorants (Useless),aluminium chloride, and botulin injections into the hands which is outrageously painful and expensive not to mind dangerous as it completely inhibits the nerve endings.
I dont think ETS surgery can be done in Ireland so I'll probably have to go abroad to get it done.

I suffer from this too but only my feet and hands are affected. My hands constantly sweet and it gets very embarrassing. Especially when you have to shake someones hand. Sometimes it gets really bad and I get little sores on my fingers underneath my skin. Stress is my main trigger.

Yes shaking someones hand can be a major nightmare.
Making presentations and doing interviews is another tough siuation.
    Even small things become difficult.
Typing on the PC and the keyboard is soaked.
The mouse ball is in a pool of water.
    Going to Mass even !
I'm 26 now and I've put up with this affliction for nearly 20 yrs .
Obviously some people say you should get used to it and its triggered by nervousness but that isnt always the case.
I'm not really a nervous person. Most peole say I'm very laid back.
One friend even said I was the most relaxed person they had ever met.
    If only they knew .
I've lived a good life up to now.A normal life.Went to college, socialise regularly ,play sports but I feel its like I've been keeping a big secret all the time, constantly covering up and at this stage I'm fed up so I'm going to get the surgery.
What is everyone elses experience of this ?

I suffer from under arm sweat. It was never a problem until the summer of my leaving cert, where I noticed that my arm pits were giving off a lot of sweat. I switched from the then cool lynx to different sorts of anti-perperients. Some would work for a week or so but soon the sweat would come back.

It's a real pain in the ass as I can only wear certain types of material as the sweat patches show up easily in some shirts. I don't know what triggers it, it can be heat but most of the time I could be sitting down without a care in the world in a cool environment.

I've lost over 2 stone in weight since January and have noticed a slight improvement. I think it's more to do with me feeling more confident in myself as I look better.

The problem I have is not something that concerns me that much. I can live with it and have done for the past 10 odd years.

on a side note, i don't suffer from this, but i do find that
whenever i use anti-perperients i sweat a lot more than
normal. ironic eh? i only ever use deodorant anymore.
