Did anyone see the poll on channel four last sunday and monday night? The 100 greatest movie stars!

The top ten was as follows : 10. Cary Grant 9. Ewan McGregor 8. Sean Connery 7. Anthony Hopkins 6. Jack Nicholson 5. Harrison Ford 4. Kevin Spacey 3. Tom Hanks 2. Robert DiNero and 1. Al Pacino!

just wondering what everybody else thought of the list?! I'm not sure I understand why Ewan McGregor features so highly, maybe because it is a British poll and he is British...I dunno, but I dont think I would have put him there, not much contest about the others. Was disappointed that Robin Williams wasnt higher up though!

    100 greatest movie stars

yeah not sure about this 'eeewww-an' mcgregor either.. i mean did they select him because he can do a singing dancing Jedi knight ?

what happend to Bruce Campbell ?
Harvey Keitel on spot 53 ? bah ..fixed rankings ! (see bad lieutenant)

Ya I caught the tail end of it and I couldn't believe that McGregor got into the top ten in front of Bogart an d Grant. Granted; McGregor has gone up in my estimation since Moulin Rouge but hell why not Bogie?

Well thats what happens when you compile a list from internet votes ...

No women in the top 10 either , and wesley snipes is a great actor ???? Since when ????

I also didnt aggree with Pacino getting the top spot , it seems alot of peolpe have mixed up shouting as good acting.

I saw the article about this in the Evening Herald yesterday.

Their conclusion as to why the results were so odd?

"The poll was voted for by 25,000 people. But these weren't the general public. Nor were they movie stars. They were nothing more than 25,000 pale, single men who took time out from downloading porn to vote in this".

    Made me laugh, anyway.

Kevin ****ing Spacey in the top ten???

    That's a pile of ****e.

Also - why was Brando so far up the list and Monroe?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 20,617 ✭✭✭✭PHB

Personally I think Kevin Spacey is the best actor there ever has been

Remember, this is Movie *stars* not *actors*
Also, any top 100 list is very subjective. Don't let it get to you.

Arnold Schwarzenegger should definetly be in the top 10... same with Harvey Keitel..
And I TOTALLY disagree with Mcgregor in the top 10.. this is the 100 greatest movie stars of ALL TIME?? I mean he's only done 6 or 7 memorable films..
    Worst poll ever..

Arnold Schwarzenegger should definetly be in the top 10
dear god man think about what your saying !!! your saying he is one of the BEST 10 actors in the world ? piffy pattle ! where was edward norton and Brando :p

Have you even seen American Beuty or The Usual Suspects? he was brilliant in both them films, bloody BRILLIANT, he was the actor who made them films as great as they were.

Hmmm what confused me about it was... was it supposed to be best Movie Stars or Movie Actors??? I mean if youre looking for the epitome of movie star I would have said Monroe.....
Pacino is a great actor but I wouldnt have called him the greatest movie star ever...
Also if we're talkin actors, then Marlon Brando and Dustin Hoffman should have been higher...

Yes Kevin Spacey was good in those 2 films.

But he has not approached anything like that since then. Pay it Forward anyone??

So I would have to say that he should not be included in the top ten movie stars of all time. 2 films does not warrant him the position he got.

I think that that top 10 wasn't too bad, good to see Pacino, De niro and Nicholson there. Alot of my other favourite actors weren't there though incl. Brando, Cagney, Deane and Bogart. Does anyone know were Bogart came?

All these Channel 4 best/greatest lists are a bit of fun nothing more. How can they be definitive when they act like an opinion poll? Nothing else can explain how many great actors (and stars) are way down the list while
McGregor is in the Top 10. In 10 years he might make the top 50 or he might be completely forgotten...the same goes for many names in that list.

Angelina Jolie at 74? more like 740!
Michael Caine 44? Number 4 shurly?

    Mike.

I know I should probably be flying the flag for women and all...but what women would you have put in the top ten?!
why was Brando so far up the list

because he was THE actor of a generation....Apocalypse Now, The GOdfather?! Do classics like that not count for anything?!

Did anyone else notice that Ed Norton wasn't in there either yet Arnie made it into the list! And why was there not one single Irish actor included?

exactly!! I mean possibly one of the finest method actors of our time!! the oh so fickle British public!!

    But day lewis is british.

Top two were spot on, didnt catch the whole show. Where did Christopher Walken come on it? He has to have been on it if bloody tom hanks, harrison ford and kevin spacey can rank so highly.

I love clint eastwood so he would surely rank in the top 10 for me, dont know about you guys but i think he's superb.

btw if this was an american poll someone like Wesley Snipes would have come first so its not really that biased in favour of british actors.

If it was an American poll then Tom Cruise would have topped it hands down....movie star means more to them than it does to us...it encompasses more than their ability to wow us, acting wise, in movies. It is more about lifestyle etc!

firstly, its movie stars, not actors.
    thats the main point.

secondly, why didn't anyone start an internet campaign to get sly stallone to the top? :)

First it's not the 10 best actors, but 10 best movie stars and
you're saying the star of classics such as terminator 1 and 2, total recall, predator, last action hero, true lies, commando, raw deal, conan the barbarian, end of days, twins, kindergarten cop, eraser
shouldn't be in the top 10 movie stars of all time?

while ewan mcgregor.. err.. moulin rouge, phantom menace.. should??

Clint is a movie star AND a great actor. He's probably given me as much pleasure over the years as as pacino has!!

well they went on ALOt about acting talent on the show so im sure it is in some way important, specially if your an actor  arnold is not a great actor and plays EXACTLY the same character in every film he plays, i am a big fan of terminat0r and preditor etc but no way is he top 10 material...

Ewan mcgregor also made trainspoting/shallow grave etc...btu i agree with you he should be in the top 10...dont think he should be in top 20 nwo that i think about it...

no that's just crazy, i can't think of any movies he's acually "acted" in... he's a terrible actor!

yeah, schwarzenegger's desperate - all image and no good acting or even films, he's just like that actor guy from the simpsons. daniel day lewis, al pacino, mel gibson, eddie murphy - they're all brilliant though

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 194 ✭✭Dredz

And Jackie Chan got a higher place than Harvey Keitel.... stupid chart....

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 2,263 ✭✭✭Caesar_Bojangle

Mick Lally is better than jackie chan, back in the day Schwarzenegger was the epitome of cool, click here to prove this
