Many ppl use TransactOnline?

I'd be wary about credit card use on the net but I'm well interested in getting a credit card with the TransactOnline thing. Apparently it generates a unique CC number so once it's used to pay for something on the net that number is not re-usable.

Seems like a good idea. Anyone here have it? The demo makes it look like you can choose different addresses - does that mean when you fill out details in an online store it doesn't have to be the address from your real card?

What are your opinions of it?

    It is what it's.

Yep I have and use it all the time I have never had to use my real CC number on the net at all and I have never had any problems using the generated number anywhere at all. I would give it the two thumbs up.

Yeah, it's really great, but the only thing is that each number is made secure by expiring as soon as it's used once - it can't be used again. This can be problematic on sites like play.com or amazon.com (not sure about the .co.uk one) that might split your order and only charge for the first one, and then charge for the second one when it goes out. Or rather try to charge :) But those ones I don't mind using the real credit card number for, but for anything else it's always Transact Online I use.

Love the way it generates the numbers :D

This Transact Online sounds interesting. I've never heard of it before. Is it run by a particular bank or all banks? Where can I find out more about it?

    TIA

I have an AIB visa card and you can get it with that, but you can't with the mastercard. AIBs site has loads of info and a demo about it. Im not sure about other banks but its such a good idea I don't see why it shouldnt be available with all credit cards.

When you're filling out an address on an order, does it have to be the address that's registered with the card, or can it be a different address? Obviously the name would have to be the same, right?

AFAIK it depends on the site - the billing information has to be the same, but the delivery address can differ - if the site allows it to be different.

Another great feature is that it allows you to set a limit on how much a transaction can be - so if it's €30 or dollars it prevents them from talking any more than that.

I don't have a credit card cause I'm still on student banking (2 years after graduating - oops :D), and I'm with BOI, but my sister has a visa with AIB so I use it all the time, along with the transactonline software - and it allows me to use my name instead of hers for delivery on most sites. As far as I can see, Bank of Ireland doesn't offer it yet.

BTW, I was just thinking, if you had to phone up anywhere to pay for something (like Ticketmaster), you could use it as well for that instead of just giving some underpaid, overworked, under-appreciated (!) telephone operator your real credit card details.

It says that you can't use it for purchases where you're required to show the plastic card (such as cinemas), don't know if Ticketmaster is the same - do you need proof of card?

Udder dan dat I'm gunna git me wan o' dem tings!
