Hi i'm not sure if this has been requested before but can we have a star trek board please, it seems illogical (pun intended) that smallville (wtf?) and star wars have boards but star trek does not, considering the amount of material in star trek and the fact there is still new episodes running, while the likes of a star wars film sees the light of day every few years. I think the board would have quite a bit of traffic considering the amount of people that seem to be fans going by peoples names and avatar's. So can we have a star trek board please and other fans please add there name to mine

    thank you

I though it a bit funny that there wasnt one as it is. Think it;s a good idea. I'm not the biggest star trek fan but at times there is always something you want to know about the show without having to thrawl the web.

I like Star Trek and while i don't know if a board would catch much traffic, I would like to have one (mainly cos I think if the smallville one can survive, a Star Trek one surely could).

It's highly unlikely u could possibly find a bigger trek head than myself but i say no, no and thousand times NO! :)

It generates some traffic but not enough for a seperate board.

merge it with star wars, fight to the death!!!

Justify the Smallville board. There's a lot larger fanbase for Star Trek imho, been around for decades... how could there NOT be?

You don't have this board because it doesn't generate enough traffic? What makes you think that? Can you imagine how many Kirk vs. Picard polls there will be? It would be a spectacular board. Besides you already have boards that don't generate much traffic. This would be no different.

cult smallville is a private board, if u want a private forum, then ask, its still down to the mods.

Huge trek fan here, but think its just fine in scifi/fantasy, don't think there would be enough posts to merit a seperate forum.

Have a weather station?, why not join the Ireland Weather Network - http://irelandweather.eu/

Get some looking at the Sci fi/Fantasy board skillz . :p .

i've decided that the people who say they are big trek fans and don't want a seperate board are not big enough trek fans for my liking, shame on you's, yous will travel on the barge of the dead, and your dishonour will be passed to your children and your children's children. But in all seriousness i'm not looking for a private board everyone should be able to post, and with regards to traffic i think there would be an increase in star trek threads if it had its own board, and also if we where to look at the traffic on some of the other boards i'm sure removal of some of them would be considered sure look theres only four actual threads on the star wars board at the moment and as i mentioned star trek is continually being produced and released.

From the looks of things, Star Trek does alot of the traffic on the Sci-Fi / Fantasy board.

I've changed my mind. I'm all for a Star Trek board now.

Why hasn't anyone ever thought of this before? Including me? I mean I'm one of those uber-trekkies. Yeah.

    I vote yes.

its been discussed before and rejected!

now down with this sort of thing! :)

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 6,560 ✭✭✭Woden

it may have been discussed before and that is fine, but times change and decisions need to be reviewed and from what i can see there seems to be quite a bit of support for this and i doubt all people who would be interested have actually found this thread to give there allegiance (sp?). Have to say i was quite surprised myself when i saw there was no star trek board, azezil is afraid the sci-fi board itself will have no traffic is a star trek one is set up :)

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 11,397 ✭✭✭✭azezil

non-sense i'd go out of my way to make sci-fi popular if that happened ;)

ah like the good old days

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 6,560 ✭✭✭Woden

Whats the good old days? when sci-fi was popular? :) have to say azezil i'm shocked i'd thought you'd be a staunch supporter and you let me down, maybe i'll have to pm lucutus :)

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 11,397 ✭✭✭✭azezil

Oh i'd love to talk about star trek all of the time i just don't think it necessary to have a seperate board.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 6,560 ✭✭✭Woden

but by that train of thought, no individual sci-fi show/book/film would necessarily need its own board?

  • Moderators, Social & Fun Moderators Posts: 10,501 Mod ✭✭✭✭ecksor

How about I rename the Star Wars forum to Star Wars/Star Trek?

Or "My god, it's full of stars".

/me awaits a Jeri Ryan board with gleeful clicky finger.

    GOD NO!!!!

    HELL NO!!!

See all of Azezils Posts and just change his disagreement with the star trek board to being a disagreement with that suggestion.

That would be wrong, very wrong.

(don't get me wrong, I like star trek and star wars, it's just that in my experience they don't mingle well as Wars is more fantasy and trek is more science)

Here's something from google, I don't have time to go into the differences because i've got study to be doing.

    Taken from here:

    http://ryoung001.homestead.com/starwars.html
Star Wars, though of the same sci-fi genre, is very different from Star Trek. Aside from the fairly obvious difference of Star Wars being set in the past and Star Trek in the future, there is another more compelling difference between the two sagas. While Star Trek explores social issues and the human condition amidst technology, human evolution, and conflicts within the premise of coexistence amongst many species, Star Wars explores the human condition from a more spiritual emphasis. Yes, Star Wars boasts a technological arsenal equal ( or, some would argue, greater ) to that of Star Trek and explores human evolution and conflict as does Trek. However, the power behind the technologies and explorations of human evolution and conflict is one of a spiritual nature rather than that of human achievement, as with Trek. The spiritual component of Star Wars that is so prevalent in Star Wars is, of course, The Force -- that all encompassing "power" which can be either good or evil. It is this dichotomy within the Force which the story is based upon -- the classic battle between good and evil.

Yeah, but the important point is that they're both about spaceships with laser guns having big fights and deadly special effects.

The difference? Jeri Ryan or Natalie Portman.

The borg is strong with ecksor, yes.

That's an easy one. I WILL COMPLY!

Your average Star Wars fan appreciates that it's all pure fantasy. Cowboys and Indians in space if you will. Core and diehard SW fans think the same thing but just know more about it.

Your average Star trek fan sees it as as science-based with some fantasy mixed in. Your core Star Trek fan sees it as a possible future. Your diehard Star Trek fan believes the Enterprise is orbiting Earth as I type.

Water and oil. Wouldn't mix them except on a board where people can also talk about The Dark Crystal.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 6,560 ✭✭✭Woden

yeah i've no problem with renaming the star wars board star trek and hten getting rid of that crappy black background and stuff that comes up, excellent Ecksor finally some progress.

sceptre, I think you will find that Enterprise is currently in the "Kulan" system which is nowhere near Planet earth in sector 1 of the Alpha quadrant  You don't need to be a Betazoid to know that, like.

Oooh I just realised the stunning similarity between the death star and the borg spheres 0_o they're both round black, bad and incredibly huge.

Anyway, my mother in law, she's so fat...

Oh and did you hear about the Klingon chef? He couldn't cook his Karzzagggnaaggtkklsh because his Farrrrgthafflekrrr was broken!

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 6,560 ✭✭✭Woden

Gordon i think you need to study the cake and reflect on all things kitten, borg spheres are small (relatively) and the death star looks pretty much grey to me and why i do see this for a topic of much debate, i think it would be much better off in the new star trek board what do you think?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 11,397 ✭✭✭✭azezil

    its a welcome discussion on sci-fi/fantasy ;)

  • Subscribers Posts: 9,716 ✭✭✭CuLT

I can already see some of the golden debates we could have over these subjects.

Borg spheres suck ass tbh, Cubes now... man.. remeber the days of NextGen when a borg cube was basically INDESTRUCTABLE?

Then along came voyager, killing loads of cubes with captain janeways karma making the phasers and photon torpedos mega powerful  .

Species 8472 was one of the best things Voyager did to the Star Trek franchise though *drool*, an extremely unusual addition to the whole thing, a liquid universe, non-humanoid, quite excellent.

You won't find a bigger star trek fan than me! Rename the star wars forum. Its not needed. Bring it back about 2 months before the next film.

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 451 ✭✭Zukustious

There are so many supporters of this board so why can't you just make it? What the hell is stopping you? There will be no negative effects from it. Basically, it won't hurt to try.
