A friendly match at this stage of the season against one of the dullest sides in Europe. Can't wait

Not to familiar with the Norwegian setup but we all know baby faced Ole. It'll be a tougher match than the Scottish match and we'll be missing a few players. I duno; I'll be optimistic and go with a 2-1 win to the lads in green

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 2,472 ✭✭✭Sposs

In the last Five meetings between the Teams only one goal has been scored, enough said going to be a very boring match.

I have a ticket and am stuck in Galway til tomorrow with work!

Grrr! First home match I have missed in years!!

Doesn't matter. I heard Richard Dunne is a definite starter, presumably with Breen. Just give them a two goal head start!

Kick-off is 7:30 live on Sky Sports 2. With delayed full match on TV3 from 9:50 or so they said this morning on the radio.

Im off to the match too... first match ever here
For the squad, all I know is that finnan, harte, mcateer, keane, duff, crowe, given and holland are in.
O'Shea and cunningham are out with knee injuries

    1-1. Probably

    Probable lineup from the Indepenedent:

    Given

    Carr Breen Dunne Harte

    Kinsella Holland Kilbane

    Duff

    Keane Connolly

Hopefully, Kerr will play Carsley instead of Kilbane.

Ordinarily I would probably agree with you, but after seeing the match, they were Irelands best two players apart from Duff, imo.

Breen has been fairly awful for West Ham, but you can have no complaints for when he plays for Ireland. He has always preformed well for Ireland imo.

How would you know? Neighter of them had anything to do!

Ireland had that match won before they even walked onto the pitch. What on earth were Norway playing at tonight? I've heard of playing conservative football but that was just ridiculous.

Just got back from lansdowne, has to be one of the most enjoyable experiences of my life. And if anybody was watching it on network 2- if you heard/saw somebody shout "FIVE NIL IRELAND!! HAT TRICK ROBBIE KEANE!!" before the match, that'd be me. Also, I'll be in the daily star tommorow with my green hair and tricolour cheeks, along with my two mates.. one with a tricolour afro and another with a viking hat..

    anyway, some pics -

They did what was asked of them and they preformed really well imo. Hopefully it will be a good confidence booster for both of them that they can bring back to their clubs, and hopefully improve their club form.

I was at the match (West Upper) and watched highlights on TV3 - IMO Dunne should have gotten Man of the Match ... I also thought Breen stood out at having a good game ... Connolly ran his heart out as did Kilbane .. Carr looked dangerous and Duff/Keane caused problems for a big Norway defence... I think it was a a good worthwhile run out and a well deserved first home win for Kerr

I was at the match too last night, good match considering Norway just came to defend!!! Won't give my opinions about all the players 'cos I think enough has been said and it was only a friendly, but having said that Duff and Keane = World Class!!! and Kilbane......well what can I say?!?! Poor old Kevin, he works his socks off for the team but tends to get a nose bleed when he's in the opposing half!!! Ah Bless!!!

But all that aside, my biggest criticism of the night has to go to a certain section of the Irish crowd who believed it would be big and clever to boo and hiss Flo everytime he was on the ball, and big and clever it certainly wasn't!!! And what was his crime that warranted all this derision, he played for Rangers!!! FFS, get a life!!! The only reason the “supporters” boo ex Rangers supporters is because of the English/Irish, Rangers/Celtic divide but let’s not forget that all the Irish players with the exception of Glen Crowe (couldn’t make it over there) ply their trade in “England” for “English” clubs and a certain amount of “Irish” players, given half a chance, would’ve played for the English national team.
Now don’t get me wrong, I’m not getting at the players or the majority of Irish supporters that where there last night, I’m just getting at the minority of bone-headed numbskulls that insist on propagating mindless racism at a football match, it’ not big and it’s not clever!!!

good win for the irish but harte made class ian harte mistakes and kilbane couldnt cross his legs!!! duff had a good game as did keane!!!

Totally agree with ya there BenBaz about the idiots who feel the need to boo players for having played with Rangers anyone would think they hate Sunderland as the last 2 players they boo'd were Reyna(spelling?) and Flo :)

you're putting a lot of emphasis on anti-"engish" opinions here.
just cause people hate rangers doesn't mean they hate england.
i certainly don't hate england. it's amusing seeing them struggle at times cause they're our big football neighbours but i was
very impressed with seeing the majority of english fans in japan
last year truely supporting the irish, i was happy for them when they beat argentina. rangers is a different story.

i'll tell you what does piss me off, the "ira" chants during the fields of athenry. fair enough if you're a hardcore nationalist
but i can't help consider those who sing it at footie matches as tossers.

anyway, your point about the booing is sound but i don't agree with the anti-english association.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 4,818 ✭✭✭Bateman

It's possible to criticise the booing of ex or current rangers players without engaging in any xenophobic behaviour, but few people seem to be able to grasp it. :(

Yes, its good to boo opposing players when they get the ball. As anyone who attends football knows, it SOMETIMES puts them off their game. But when its limited to one player in particular, who HAPPENS to play for a club that USED to have a no-Catholic rule, froma different country, its just PATHETIC.

How many people have seen BRITS OUT scrawled on a school desk, proudly alongside MUFC?

What has England got to do with any of this?

Your right though, I find it embarrasing as a Celtic fan when this happens, though its mostly from guys who generally follow Man U or Liverpool IMHO and just jump on the "oldfirm" bandwagon when the derby is on or when an oportunity arises to act like lemmings (such as last night with Flo)

Real Celtic fans only boo Neil McCann because hes a traitorous little ****er and Barry Ferguson cos hes an orange ****bag.
    :D

No one else is fair game for this "booing" treatment at internationals in my opinion.

Never mind the Booing - what about the game?

I thought it was a terrible game. Painfully boaring to watch.
    A bit of Classic Ireland.

I means did I missing something here??

You've just explained the English connection yourself, by calling Barry Ferguson an "orange ****bag"

Well at this stage of a season it was never going to be a classic. There are still very important games coming for up for a lot of the players so one could forgive them for not going out to burst themselves.

Well in fairness he is... He was the one who told Gazza to do that flute thing he done after he scored against Celtic.

    Gazza

Dunno about that to be honest, but its seems to be common knowledge that he is/was "sympathetic" to the views of the "walking brethren"

Andy Goram was a jaffa as well, and known to be a supporter of loyalist paramilitaries.

Gazza even said it himself in an interview. He said that Barry Ferguson told him to do it and that he regretted doing it because some Celtic fans were threatening to slit his throat. Blah blah blah. Rangers and Celtic fans should be shot.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 4,818 ✭✭✭Bateman

The slant I heard on the Gazza story was that he was stopped in traffic one day at the lights, and a RANGERS fan walked over to his window, and told him he'd slit his ****ing throat if he did that again.

The Rocket Men who serve coffee in eircom League grounds are actually quite cheap, it used to be £1 for coffee with a 2finger Kitkat. I can't see how that is extortionate. Maybe they rip off the international fans, but as long as they are as clueless as the majority seem to be, then long may it last.
