    Hey,
After doing a search on this, im more confused than i was before?
Does anyone know for sure if the new Eircom starter package uses PPPoA or PPPoE.........
I know this has been asked a millions times before, but every thread ive read on this never comes to a final answer, just seams to be alot of "a biddy told me......" or "ive heard some one say it was XXXXX"
Please someone clear this up for me.

    I rushed out a bought a router/modem/switch from Marx-computers 2 weeks ago for E155.
I didnt know there was any difference in modems (pppoa/pppoe)
All i went by was the "will work with eircom adsl" on marx product features.
    It says it supports PPPoA.
If Eircom use PPPoE, is there anything i can do so i can use this modem? Drivers/new software? (provide links please!)

    Any help would be great.

From what I can gather, most DSL modems support both these days, you might have to configure something.
Have you tried the manual :) or the manufactures website?

Ok, sweet, i got it sorted.
It actually supports both, (thank god!)
It was just configured out of the box for PPPoA, I flicked through the crappy manual and got it sorted with a bit of fiddling.
    I now have broadband!!!!!!!
    Mmmmm illegal software heaven..................

heyas, i have everything working but when i try to connect to eircom it says the remote computer aint responding. So when i looked through the error message, it seems that the settings have to be the same as eircoms (duh :( ) but i cant see how to edit the settings on my Alcatel USB Modem. it says nothing about it in the manual. help much appreciated.

p.s i copied the modem installation files over to my harddrive and edited the phonebook.ini to the proper settings, but when i tried to install it said the driver files have been edited, so it wont install, any ideas?

Having been kept in suspense I did a quick googleround and came across this link http://www.jeacle.ie/adsl/

    Answer eircom i-stream = PPPoE.

"The i-stream service uses a very common ADSL network configuration of PPPoE over RFC1483 bridged ethernet on ATM PVC 8/35. Line speeds are 512/128 and 1M/256. The contention ratio used for dimensioning traffic from DSLAM ports back to the core of the network is 24:1 or 48:1. "

If only eircom's own www.adsl.ie website was as informative!

    zz..
