Tunes via HTTP

Right well I've been away for a while, so I applogise in advance if this is an exhausted topic. But where are ye lot downloading decent tunes/sets via HTTP. To the non techie, I am simply reffering to web sites, and not Peer 2 peer file sharing.

Of course I'm aware of www.tranceaddict.com , jesus christ that has gotten it's fare share of attention, even before I left. There was also kickme.to/trancegate , which as far as I can remember told you where to get stuff. Anyway what pissed me off was most of these sites were links to (often cheesy) trance tunes/sets. Good trance is hard to find, and a lot of the stuff at tranceaddict is just typial compilation trance CD stuff. Out of those sets you will only find one or two (max) good tunes, the rest you're probably sick and tired of listening to.

Anyway I came across this little gem a few months back: http://www.texasbeatz.net

Basically it's a database of sets (& tunes, but I haven't paid them much attention) compiled primarily on the west coast of the states (not just Texas ;)), and is basically a showcase for local talent. Now when I say local tallent most of these guys have been playing in clubs for years, and a lot of the sets I've download are very well put together. Anyway I like this site for many reasons. My favorite stuff at the moment is definately of the Techno, Tribal House, Progressive type. This site accomodates that taste very well indeed. Now it also has plenty of trance, actually this site covers everything from chillout, to thumping techo, and you could find jazz somewhere in between. Another really kewl thing is that the site is updated constantly (with older stuff still remaining available). It is possible that about 30 new sets will be added every week to 10 days. There is a search facility to let you locate set's of different styles. However I've only download 2 trance sets from the site (out of about 5gigs of downloads so far), and they were on teh cheesy side. Cheesy trance seems to be all the rage over there, but they really do have excellent techno. One set that I have playing in the background here at teh moment is called "RealTekno" (do a search for it on the site, by Mix Name). This would be typically the kind of stuff I'm listening to right now. If anyone likes that kind of **** let me know, and I'll refer you to plenty other stuff.

One thing that you won't find on it is popular names you know. Obviously you'll know tunes in the set lists here and there. A lot of the stuff in the Techno sets I hadn't heard before, bar a couple of tunes. Also a lot of the tunes are underground based, so you won't see them being mixed by Tiesto, Oakenfold, or anythign like that. Oh yeah another kewl thing is that when you click on a set, often you get the tracklisting too ;)

Anyway enjoy, let me know what you think, and if you have any good (for the love of god non commercial trance) sites, let me know.

    Cheers :)

err if its good techno youre after then www.technomecca.org and [whenever joe mcgrath pulls his finger out -] www.techno.ie should both be fairly good resources for techno...
if its good drum and bass youre after then i cannot over emphasise how good www.irishdrumandbass.com is, irish and international djs and producers throwing down their finest; also on a junglist tip you might want to check out
    www.breakbeat.co.uk
    and
    www.dogsonacid.com
the latter especially is a good place to hear forthcoming stuff from the bigger names, the former is better for archived sets and new releases, and also has an extensive shop... the forums on both of those sites are where you get the good stuff though, a lot of fairly well known djs and producers post their monthly mixes up.

if however you want to get the lowdown on the nu school breaks scene check out www.nuskoolbreaks.co.uk

www.speedbass.net is your one stop resource for anything beakcore related.... panacea, ghetto safari, needle sharing etc.
generally scary german ppl who live in squats and consider anything below 250bpm to be mellow music...

*its all out there on the internet....*

    Cheers for that ;)

You don't have any more links to decent Techno download sites, as there is only a few (outdated) techno sets to be downloaded from technomecca. texasbeatz.net is has sets only a day or two old for example, but I can't get the **** fast enough.

    nice one ;)

and what are yis on about theres no such thing as good trance and if there is i havent seen any since 1995... all of this euphoric post mitsubishi gatecrasher bollox is musical pish of the worst variety..... i mean, eight years ago if you said you were into trance you meant hardfloor style twelve-303's-in one-tune acid stuff, these days trance just mean formulaic kickdrums piano break downs an off beat bassline and the odd snare drum roll with an asinine inane melody, its just a soundtrack for madoutofit proletarian scum like... what are you doing to yourselves???
