Any chance of a sticky "betting" thread? With no discussion, and <tips/who we are backing> only, it might be popular.

Or does anyone else even bet on football?

If im off work on saturdays i go pub and try to predict every premiership game of that days result stick em on an accumulator then have a reason to cheer @ Soccer Saturday.
€5 could get you a few grand if you get them all right.

3 times i have lost out to a late goal with every result going my way.
Never won will one day tho :)

Big singles are better, accumulaters just give the bookie more chance and yourself less. :(

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 1,672 ✭✭✭Wolf

Yeah if you look into the math of accums you will see that once you combineeven just two odds it expenentially increases the chances of both those odds happening.

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 1,392 ✭✭✭jonno

    What an ingenius idea;)

I agree singles are better bets but the accumulators (as KdjaC said will have you shouting for teams all over the place) and also can be verty interesting.

Personally I'd only put a few squid on an accumulator myself. Too risky but morer interesting.

Me gives a vote for a sticky although it could run me financially:rolleyes:

Singles are a waste of money €5 on a single match with odds like 11/4 is kinda pointless unless you betting lots of €€€€.

I think everyone should pick the premier leagues predictions ina post every week we can debate them over a week and not in the usual 2 hours with beer (and making the bet whilst half pissed isnt a good idea) buts its great fun and not supporting an English team makes it fun for me.
      1.Bolton v Arsenal 12:30 2.Birmingham v Middlesbrough 15:00 3.West Brom v Liverpool 15:00 4.Charlton v Southampton 15:00 5.Chelsea v Fulham 15:00 6.Everton v Aston Villa 15:00 7.Leeds United v Blackburn 15:00 8.Sunderland v Newcastle 15:00

    1.Home win
    2.Home win
    3.Away Win
    4.Away Win
    5.Home Win
    6.Home win
    7.Away win
    8.Draw

€5 bet on the above should give youa few bob for the weekend and makes Soccer Saturday a lot more fun :D
Btw Bateman with only 3 weeks left in Premiership why didnt you think of this 7 months ago ????

    >unless you betting lots of €€€€

    Thats what you do.

I was thinking even lower odds though, 1-3 for Man United at home to Fulham, €150 stake means €50 easy money.

We could post prices from different companies and all that.

You are right, I should have thought of it before, but we have the playoffs still to come, although they are very risky for betting.

I think a betting thread for Soccer is a great idea.

I was thinking about this earlier today actually, a thread to discuss this weeks hot tips, sure-thing bets, etc.

KdjaC is right, accumilators are better, every week i throw a few quid on a big accum. It's worth it as it makes the footie results that bit more exciting.
Although i never have the courage to bet on draws :(

    Good idea alright.

But what do our benevolent moderators think?

how about a forum within soccer or sports?

I did however put a €5 forecast on Ad Hoc and Stormez in the gold cup yesterday and won €200 :D

has anyone used this? I know it's a nice idea .. but what about in practice

(if ppl don't know) its like your teh bookie/punter .. if you think a horse is a definate winner you can get other people to offer you odds .. if you think the favourite is a donkey you can offer other people odds

I wonder what the odds for

Liverpool to lose next two matches
Everton to win next two matches (Rooney scores against Man Utd)
    Everton finish above Liverpool
Man Utd lose the league on the last day

    accumulator

    :)

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 4,818 ✭✭✭Bateman

    nice too see its stuck

i lost a lot of money betting against celtic, first with boavista, then with rangers at the weekend

I think the huns are still worth a punt to win the league at this stage though, unless they've stopped taking bets at this stage, which betfair havent as far as i know. we'll have to be careful as far as advertising prices on different sites is concerned, i have an account on betfair so ill be talking about them quite a bit...

anyway, i tried my luck on the bettong mans nightmare of a game tonight derry to beat ucd and it was worth it, as the english league gets so tense its dangerous to back anyone to a large amount as chelsea and arsenal showed last week, ive no really good irish singles this week either with bohs away to waterford, pats playing shels and rovers v cork all very tough to call, we'll see though....

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 4,818 ✭✭✭Bateman

Wolves and Sheff Utd for the playoff semis, if anyone's brave enough.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,604 ✭✭✭LizardKing

Might try a €5 accumalator on matches

    10 may
SPL Celtic 15:00 Hearts (Home Win)

    11 may
SPL Rangers 15:00 Kilmarnock (Home Win)

    11 May
Prem Birmingham City vs West Ham United 15:00 (Away win)
Prem Bolton Wanderers vs Middlesbrough 15:00 (Away win)
Prem Chelsea vs Liverpool 15:00 (Away win)
Prem Everton vs Manchester United 15:00 (Away win)
Prem Sunderland vs Arsenal 15:00 (Away win)
Prem West Bromwich Albion vs Newcastle United 15:00 (Away win)

8 Games; only ones I'd be worried about personally would be liverpool / west ham / middlesbrough

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 484 ✭✭ManWithThePlan

Middlesborough have very good odds (5-1 in Paddy Power !)

I would never back on Liverpool, they are so inconsistent.

Anyone know the odds on Celtic winning 6-2 tonight .. I've been going around today predicting exactly that score ..
But being the fool that I am never put the bet on ..

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,335 ✭✭✭Dr Bolouswki

Accumaltors are bad for your mental health

I had Arsenal, Portsmouth, QPR and Rushden for the 4 english leagues.... each way on 2.50 would have got me 6000 if it came in... Portsmouth were an unbelievable 10-1???

Anyway - Paddy Power paid out on Arsenal - so I shall hate QPR for ever....

End of UK Footie Season has probably added to its demise ...

Also it shows that a lot of people don't wanna share good tips etc.

Most bets I've put down in last while failed miserably too

How about this selection prices with Paddy Powers :

Turkey @ home to Macedonia 1/8
Czech Rep @ home to Moldova 1/16
Belgium @ home to Andorra 1/33
    Rep.Ireland @ home to Georgia 1/4
Germany away to Faroe Islands 1/8
    Spain away to N.Ireland 1/5
England @ home to Slovakia 1/5

    €100 Stake should return €249 approx. !!

    What you think ?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,604 ✭✭✭LizardKing

I like it ... (only nervous about Ireland after last game :( .... )

    Dunno bout risking €100 though

    might give €50 a shot ....

    Cheers

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 2,965 ✭✭✭tinofapples

I agree about being a little nervous after Ireland's last game but I think the lads will have learnt their leason and will come out much stronger than on Saturday.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,604 ✭✭✭LizardKing

OK Heres what I went for ( chickened it a bit )

    €30 Accumalator

    England V Slovakia - ( Home win 1 - 5 odds )
    N. Ireland V Spain - ( Away win 1 - 5 odds )
    Rep. Ireland V Georgia - ( Home win 1 - 4 odds )
    San Marino V Hungary - ( Away win 1 - 16 odds )
    Turkey V Macedonia - ( Home win 1 - 7 odds )
    Finland V Italy - ( Away win 4 - 5 odds )
    Belgium V Andorra - ( Home win 1 - 50 odds )
    Faroe Islands V Germany - ( Away win 1 - 10 odds )

Probably not worth my while though ....

Still makes the night a little more interesting

    ;)

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 2,965 ✭✭✭tinofapples

By my calculations that should return in the region of €132 , not a huge sum but as I always say profit is profit !!

I would be a little sus about Italy away to Finland , the Fins are no push-over !!

Good luck wth it anyway , may it be the start of a successful run !!

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 2,965 ✭✭✭tinofapples

Well LizardKing , lady luck didn't shine upon us on this occasion , that's always the way with these accums , someone more often than not lets you down , don't they ?

I once did ten teams, you may be familiar with it on the Football Sheets, two from each section, its usually about 300-1. I do this every week, never won, usually lose by a few teams. Anyway, I found a website which has there predictions and the percentages on each team winning, so I put a fiver on the highest percentages in each group, on my bookies sheet, and 9 teams won, 1 team lost, Dunfermline. I would have won €2500.

Heres the site, but since the seasons over no fixtures are up. There might be European matches though.

    Double them up ???

Betting for Wednesday's Bohs game is crap, but if anyone fancies it:

    6-5 Bohs
    9-5 BATE
    11-5 draw

Maybe it's a case of wishful thinking on my part, but I've just stuck €100 on Liverpool to win the Premiership - the biggest bet I've ever had. Also stuck €40 on Villa to finish in the top six at what I thought was a reasonable 9-1.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 2,965 ✭✭✭tinofapples

Any fancy anything on the football this weekend ?

It's probably best to wait a few weeks and see how each team is doing don't you think ?

Usual bankers should do alright though , Celtic , Rangers , Bayern and so on .

Galway United 5/2 with PP to beat Finn Harps at home tomorrow night !!

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 2,965 ✭✭✭tinofapples

I was in the bookies with a mate at lunchtime , picked up the Midweek Football Coupon. I decided to do 6 homes at guaranteed odds of at least 7/1 :

    Ireland to bt Aussie's
    Stoke to bt Rochdale
    Norway to bt Scotland
    Denmark to bt Finland
    Russia to bt Israel
    Turkey to bt Moldova

Could have done 4 draws guaranteed 87/1 but they are hard to pick .

What ya'll think ? I stuck a fiver on it

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 27,349 ✭✭✭✭super_furry

I know it goes against the grain, but 3-1 for Australia to beat Ireland is a very good price, especially after the way they played against England........

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,604 ✭✭✭LizardKing

    Ireland to bt Aussie's

... dunno socceroo's looked good against england

Stoke to bt Rochdale (??? dunno either side)
Norway to bt Scotland ( yeah probably )
Denmark to bt Finland (dunno maybe)
    Russia to bt Israel (yeah)
    Turkey to bt Moldova (yeah)

    I gonna try Accumalator 5 euro ....

    Colombia U17 v Finland U17 6 - 5 Home Win

    Valence v Le Havre Away Win 2 - 1

Caen v Grenoble Home Win evens

    Luxembourg v Malta 6 - 4 Away Win

    England U21 v Croatia U21 - Live on Sky 8 - 15 Home win

    Brazil U17 v Yemen U17 2 - 7 Home win

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 2,965 ✭✭✭tinofapples

I've cleared the first two and arguably the trickiest two even if it was a scrape in both cases .

I never count my chicks before they hatch though , these bets have a nasty way of surprising you .

Just found this board and thread.

Is this the only Irish related betting messagboard out there?

How about a sports betting board?

It would be easier for people to share information without having to go to the one thread all the time. Different threads for midweek/weekend bets etc..

I am mostly into the soccer betting, all european leagues but mostly Eircom League and UK leagues.

Anybody have any good soccer link sites for betting.

    The ones I use are

    http://sunsite.tut.fi/rec/riku/soccer.html
    http://www.betdevil.com
    http://news.bbc.co.uk/sport1/hi/football/eng_prem/default.stm
    http://www.sportinglife.com/football/news/

Please post any good sources of info. Only by sharing info can we beat the bookie.

I never bet on international friendlies as you never know what teams are gonna be put out or anything but its a good choice.

When you are betting with them football coupons, if it says 6 homes will give you guaranteed odds of at least 7/1 than put 7 teams on. It will always increase the odds by around 50%.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 2,965 ✭✭✭tinofapples

    Eireboy as you state
you never know what teams are gonna be put out or anything

Adding another team into it would have decreased my chances of winning anything .

I was debating whether to put England in to beat Croatia instead of Denmark to beat Finland but decided against it .

Maybe of all that was on the coupon that was the only one I could have added or maybe that's the one I should have choosen rather than Denmark , a few hours will tell.

As I always say "Profit is Profit" , should get back close to €50 if it comes up !!
