Boycott the S*n

    Tuesday April 15th 2003 is the 14th Anniversary of the Hillsborough Disaster in which 96 people lost their lives. The tragedy, in which young boys and girls as young as 13 lost their lives, presented a sick a vile opportunity for The S*n print disgusting lies about the horrific events in order to sell a few more copies of their rag.

    The headline on the Wednesday following the disaster was:

    THE TRUTH

    - Some fans picked pockets of victims;
    - Some fans urinated on the brave cops;
    - Some fans beat up PC giving kiss of life.

    The response to this headline on Merseyside was one of outrage - thousand of copies were stolen and burnt and there followed a successful boycott campaign of the paper.

    To the present day that paper is still hated in the city of Liverpool and beyond and there are still shopkeepers that refuse to sell.

    Unfortunately distributors have forced shopkeepers to display the The S*n in their shops against their wishes - most actively discourage people from buying it however legally they must display it.

    The fight for justice still continues in Liverpool under the Hillsborough Justice Campaign (HJC), this year they have printed a letter for shopkeepers that can be displayed in their windows in order to actively discourage customers from buying the The S*n, though most don't need any encouragement at all. The Scum has lost millions in revenue over the 14 year boycott and they have tried many underhanded tactics including taking out a full page advertisement at the back of the Worthington Cup Final programme this year when Liverpool played Manchester United.

    The purpose of this mail is to raise awareness amongst Irish Reds and all football supporters who have only a vague recollection of the disaster back in 1989. I implore you to forgo the purchase of this malicious rag on Tuesday at least and for the rest of your life.

    Liverpool is recognised amongst Irish people as on of the closest cities in England that you will get to Dublin - fight the injustice together, BOYCOTT THE S*N.

    I see anarch is still popping up dispensing pearls of wisdom from time to time.

    On topic, its worthwhile to remember the Sun and what not, but in fairness most hardcore Liverpool fans don't or shouldn't buy it anyway. I never buy it as its a crap paper, but their eircom League coverage is excellent.

    Having been to Anfield several times and following the team for many years, I can assure you that Liverpool fans are not doing this to hide our crap season. We have had plenty of crap seasons in recent years, we can handle them fine thank you.

    Liverpool as a club is almost a family affair. If you were ever there you would know. Before kick off when the crowd starts to sing you'll never walk alone raises the hairs on the back of your neck.
    The tributes and memorials to the fans and past stars everywhere...... Liverpool is a big club, with a small club feel (like newcastle). When the club or supporters are insulted in this way by rags like the sun, you insult a family. Forgiveness is not easy to come by.

    Thats nice, but the Hillsborough victims' families don't even get a Christmas Card from the club. The Justice campaign gets little or no recognition as it steps on a lot of toes, be under no illusions about that one. Although they probably do treat their fans relatively well compared to other Premiership clubs.

    I don't think its relevant to anything who anarchy supports.

    It does not matter that he is a Man U fan or not, an idiot is an idiot no matter who he/she supports.

    Well said Yop. I think that there are prats on every side of the divide. Who that dope supports has nothing got to do with his comments.
