Hi all, im shooting a scene for a short film and i need 2 locations. I dont have a car/time to go traveling around the country looking for one so hopefully someone here can recommend a spot.

I need a level crossing where an intercity train travels through at high speed. It should be an open location with not may trees/stuff around it blocking the view of the surrounding countryside.
A reasonably big/mainish road would be better.
Surrounding dublin/meath/louth area please. Dublin better.

secondly i need a location where high waves do this at a pier/rocks

you can mail me at alan@spoiltchild.com or reply here. Thanks.

you're unlikely to get waves of that height and force anywhere along the coast of irish sea, you'd need the atlantic for that- Mayo or Donegal or Kerry eould probably be better- or anywhere there's good surfing.

does it have to be intercity, cos there's a level crossing near either sydney parade or landsdowne dart station where it whooshes past, but it's not in the countryside

i realise none of this is in any way helpful.

There is a level crossing about half an hour from limerick on the way to nenagh. It was a good view of the country side but then again i'm sure there are loads like it arround the country. Just a suggestion.

Try taking a trip on the Maynooth Arrow line (get a day ticket) and check out the level crossings - most of the route is fairly flat and on the east coast it is the line with the most level crossings. Or try between Greystones and Wicklow (next to sea, but shoot from beach and you have a good shot of the Wicklow mountains).

Merrion Gates (DART & Intercity) and the few crossings between Sutton and Howth (DART only) have a good frequency and are the most open. Watch out for overhead wires though.

Otherwise the Mayo and Galway lines and the Mallow-Tralee line have the best selection of crossings.

www.irishrail.ie but if you are going to be working on the crossing you can get permission if you organise it properly (ask for CTC in Connolly as a starting point). Be very careful working on or near the railway, there could be specials, engineering trains etc. that aren't on published schedules. Remember the train never looses.

A lot of smaller crossings on maps have been removed for safety reasons.

Poolbeg lighthouse (south docks) during rough weather. Alternatively the east pier in Dun Laoghaire. Weather will usually be rougher on west coast.

Or you could build a giant wave machine, the likes of which the world has never seen...

    Well that's my contribution....

A guy drowned along the promenade from waves like that about three years ago, but i doubt you'll get waves like that at this time of year.

You could stow away on a boat to Australia and Im sure they have pretty big waves there, coz there always surfing in Home and Away and Neighbours! Or you could go to the set of Baywatch, Im sure they be happy to oblige?!

    :)

If you're looking for someone to drive a car at high speed through the level crossing just missing the train, I may be available. Always wanted to do that.
