Shamrock Rovers - What the hell is going on?

I've never really been interested in eircom League football because, living in Tallaght there are no local teams. However as soon as Rovers announced plans to build a stadium here, I decided that I'ld go as often as I could and perhaps even buy a season ticket to support what would be my 'local team.'

Well that was about three years ago and since then the stadium has been half built and left that way. It doesn't look like any work has gone on there in over a year and with the new season approaching I'm wondering if it will ever be finished. It's a shame, because being based in the middle of Tallaght where there are about 90,000 people, I don't think they'ld have any trouble selling it out most weeks.

Basically they're short about €5 million to complete the stadium. They have been looking at various options for raising the cash. They've even considered ground sharing the new stadium with the GAA. Anyway, lets hope it will all be sorted out asap.

Yup about time they had their own stadium to wreck rather than their fans wrecking other clubs grounds.

I am in the same boat, awaiting the stadium to open. Like super furry I was going to buy a season ticket, and get one or two of the lads to aswell. I cant believe they started a project like this and ran out of money half way through. Typical.

There are meetinga taking place with both the builders and the bank managers this week, and there may be something concrete announced this week or next. Start of next season seems to be a realistic target though, its only the seats and the roof.

Although if they continue spending their money on players instead of stadium development, it coule be a lot longer.

Having the stadium where it is just doing nothing is terrible though. Why do so much projects fail like this? Why is it so hard to just Budget the whole thing at the start?

I live in Naas, Kildare but I've been a Rovers fan all my life. Its a shame to see all this go to waste; after having so much done.

A combination of spiralling building costs and the club unwisely investing stadium money on new signings and player's wages mean it has not been on course with the original budget. Seems to be October for real though.

Do they not just say October every year? I am pretty sure that it was meant to open in October 2001.

Yeah, it was supposed to be that, but it has gone outside the planned timetable. Everyone knows that. I think it really could be October/November this year though, as they seem to be getting the €€€ together.
