Is The Simpsons the best US comedy?

Well is it?

They had an article in the RTE Guide this week saying it's the longest running US comedy ever.

I for one don't watch another show as much as The Simpsons. The show's replay value is fantastic and therefore is the best US comedy.

Ugh.. this will drag out the usual moan about how **** the new episodes are and how perfect things were in the good old days when the writing was sharp and witty.

I don't really care which one is the best. If Simpsons, Married with Children, The Family Guy, M*A*S*H, Cheers or any of the other classics is on TV I'll watch them over and over and over. They all have different aspects that make them funny and rewatchable and declaring one the best doesn't have much relevance.

Probably best all time, I wont go into how its lost its way.

But Seinfeld is also a touch of class.

Taxi, slightly before my time, that is regarded as a classic.

Im saying no because as BLITZ_Molloy suggested.. the new ones are crap! So because its phrased "Is" i cant as current episodes lack humour... Old ones are class though.

Currently i like scrubs.. i dont watch it unless its on and i happen to see it.. At first i thought it was crap but it grew on me.

Family Guy kicks the simpsons Ass at the moment! and Sauraman is right there is better current comedy out there than the simpsons in the woonderful Scrubs and also I think the New friends is very good.
heck even Wil and Grace is funnier than the new simpsons

The Simpsons is good but used to be very good a good ep on Su n BTW, The best US sitcom of all time Seinfeld writing reached a new level.

Family Guy was better than the Simpsons in its first series,as was South Park.But their initial spark soon fizzled out and despite the fact they are still relatively funny nothing can compare to their first seasons.I mean,South Park went tits up in series 2 and took a while to recover,and never fully has.
Family Guy was at least as good as the simpsons in series 1 but by series 2 it was not near as good IMO anyway.
And how come it seems I was the only person arsed watching season 1 of Family Guy when it first aired?I would tell people about how great it was but nobody bothered watching.The rest of the world only tuned in when it was half as good:(

My list of best American comedy would be
1-The Simpsons
2-Married With Children
3-South Park
4-Family Guy

The Fresh Prince and Diffrent Strokes also had some great moments.I also like this show called My Wife and Kids.It is shown on Trouble every once and a while for a period of a few weeks(though im getting tired of watching the same eps-they dont seem to buy the new ones).One of the Wayans brothers is in it(the bald one,cant remember his name).Quite a funny show.:)

South Park all the way Simpons has gotten old and its just not as funny as it used to be.
There alot of good sitcoms out there now Scrubs, Futurama, Family Guy, Simpons has lost it.

Personaly I think the simpsons was always over rated. Its a good programme but noting more. Its survived through its reputation.

At this moment of time i think that Family Guy is the best out there.

Seconded. Seinfeld is good and all, but still overrated. Frasier is great.

Futurama, Family Guy, still better than Simpsons. At it's peak, Simpsons was the best, but that was a long time ago.

In fairness to the Simpsons, I wonder will Futurama still be as funny if it was to run as long as the Simpsons.

The new series of Frasier has been appaling and the last few years has been very hot and cold whereas Seinfeld ended on a high rather then a low and let the audience want more.:)

Seinfeld was brilliant. Family Guy, Scrubs and Malcolm in the Middle are the funniest at the moment imo. Another relatively poor episode of the Simpsons last Sunday, although I still watch the classic episodes if they're on.
