How excellent is this film? I was fortunate enough to receive the Collectors Edition DVD for my birthday recently. It's been years since I watched it and I must say it still looks absolutely great.

One of the features with this edition is an hour-and-a-half 'making of' documentary, which basically details how the film was groundbreaking, and also the only film that will ever be made this way (right down to special one-off film produced by Kodak). The combination of early, stylised CGI, live action (white on a black background) and hand-painted backlit animation makes the film one of a kind.

Does anyone else love the film as much as me or am I a hopeless old romantic? ;)

Nopes, this movie is great! , it's the story line as well, as a kid i must have dreamt loads of times to get myself into a game.
The race track with the bikes is amazing !
Loads of original idea's in the movie creates a different atmosphere unlike any other movie i have seen.
The visuals of how a BIT looks like ..pretty funny :)

I loved the Arcade game as well Btw

I can't deny that in purely technical terms, Tron's special effects were superseded a very long time ago (probably by 'The Terminator'). However, due to the special techniques that were used (and never will be again due to their labour-intensive nature) the film's style is both unique and timeless.

It really is lovely to look at! :)

It's astonishing how little its dated alright. I saw the first half of the film last year. I hope it gets shown on TV again so I can see the rest of it. I'm too cheap to buy the DVD.

Darnit there was a web game that you could play with the exact same setup as the bike game in Tron. It was posted up on boards some weeks ago but I can't remember where. Cool game, sorry I forgot to link it here :(

So did anyone watch Tron yesterday on the Beeb? Couldn't believe it was on, class. Don't think I'd ever seen the whole film before, it made sense this time! Great start to the afternoon, pity the rest of the day was ruined by Chelsea. :(

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 679 ✭✭✭ciano

Yeah I watched it. Really enjoyed it. I dont think I appreciated it enough when it first came out.

i watched it the other day when it was on. i thought it was pure ****e - and im usually such a big fan of old movies :-( ...i was really disappointed because people who'd seen it before kept telling me it was great. and it probally was in the 80s.

Well be the hokies I remember (vaguely) seeing this in the cinema when it came out first. My aunt took me and my brothers to see it. (Maybe in the Screen in Dublin - can't be sure)

I thought it was great but I haven't seen it for years and years - I must rent it again.
