Dumbass Q: RH8 & windows key

I'm a keyboard kid (comes from being in college in the past where people have robbed the ball out of the mouse). Even using Linux I use Alt-F4 to close windows

I'd like to use the windows key to open the Gnome menu (I'd also like to do the same using KDE but Gnome would be enough for now). I realise that I can use Alt-F1 to have the menu open somewhere on screen but I'd like to use the windows key instead as it's there doing nothing and have the menu open nicely on the bottom left of the screen.

    Solution anyone (please!)?

RH8 btw, no updates ever installed.

This works in KDE on RH7.3 : Go to ->Preferences -> Look and feel -> Shortcuts

Change the theme to Windows (with Win key)

and you should be sorted..... - all you're favourite windows shortcuts are there...

Don't know about GNOME though as i don't use it - sorry!

It's not a stupid question sceptre, it used to work by default up to 7.3, but it's stopped working now. A search for 'gnome "windows key"' turns up a few hits, some of which refer to a bug in Gnome. At least one had a solution, I think on Experts Exchange, but I forgot to post it and I couldn't be arsed looking again. So try that search and have a poke around for yerself.

I'm interested in knowing also. I know it works on mandrake but I've recently installed red hat 9 and I was expecting it to work actually!
