EU library records

I heard somewhere (sorry, can't remember where) that the American government, apparently legally, are obtaining the EU library records, looking for people taking out books on Islam in general, but in particular books detailing the 'fundamentalist' nature of Islam, and looking for people taking out particular authors (I guess Edward Said would be one). I realise that this is probably bull****, but you never know. The reason why I'm asking is because I have to do an essay on Islamic Fundamentalism for college, and I've just rented out around ten books on the subject. They probably have me earmarked as suspicious (if this was true, like).

They're doing this in the US, but this is the first I've heard of it happening in the EU. I doubt very much they could do it legally anyway, data protection laws would forbid it and I think that if they were doing it covertly, we'd have heard about it by now, particularly from librarians.
