I was lying in bed with my eyes closed last hight, and I saw the flash, followed by the loudest thunder I ever heard. But only one or two strikes, right?

Yeah it was well strange.. what with the war gonig on and all
It was sporadic and unusual.. Like a really bright flash of lightning then the loudest thunder i've ever heard.. then nothing no rain, no thunder for about 20 minutes

Tsk, tsk. What were you doing with your computer on during a thunderstorm? (Unless you're fully surge protectioned!)

Actually, the words pot, kettle and black spring to mind. I unplugged the modem cable etc after the second flashBOOM. However when I plugged it all back in this morning, I couldn't connect to the net, given a no dialtone message. But the phone worked fine :(

Tried moving the modem to a different slot, tried it in Win98 and even took it apart to see if there were any burns.

Finally, I replaced the modem cable and BINGO it worked again! Thank God for that! :)

The moral of this story? The good 'aul (pretty new actually) cheap cable burnt out before the modem even knew there was a surge :D

    Yay!

    It is what it's.

Maybe it a US jet?? Could have been Igniting its afterburners to go supersonic so explaining the light and boom... Though probably it was just lightning and thunder.

Oh yeah,.. i did not see/hear it by the way

Its probably just the weather. And speaking of weather, this fog is really pissing me off up here. It's fucking with all the TV signals.

    Ditto.

First time I heard the thunder I thought it was someone with a wheely-bin around the side of my house, or an aeroplane or summit. Second clap of thunder was the loudest I've ever heard though and it scared the shit out of me!
