I want to buy a protein supplement of some description, problem is, I don't know what type (soy or whey), or brand to get. I've heard some stuff about dodgy supplements which have nasty things like steroids in them (they were discussing this on Newstalk)... but I'm not sure how common that is. Can anyone help me with this?

Well I can only reccomend the stuff I take,

    Whey protein from TMOF

Irish and UK based. Pretty much the cheapest you will get and all high quality protein.

If you are looking for other choices, just pop into workout world on the quays (assuming you are in Dublin), and they have a fairly large range of stuff, predominantly maxi muscle afair. You will pay a bit more though.

    Hi Jak,

Just ordered some Whey protein on TMOF and just wondered what's the normal delivery time on an order???

    Cheers,

    B.

I'd say sometime early next week if you are in Ireland and only ordered today - Friday.

This is pretty ridiculous. Nobody is going to "sneak" steroids into an OTC supplement.

    What is "Newstalk"?

    Actually Logic ... :)

There was a case of a guy spiking his supps for sale. People were noticing above average results etc. and eventually he was caught out for it.

Only ever heard of one case though, will check up on details on return from this w/e. It is probably not very good business sense given the added cost.

That's pretty crazy ****, like for a start what would you spike it with and how could you ensure gains, the amount you'd need in 5 lbs of whey to notice a difference is insane.

Interesting story though, the guy must have been nuts.

News-Talk (News Talk... newstalk?) is a radio station, on 106FM. It's a good station. They had some fitness expert/doctor scientist type guy in (I forget who exactly he was) and he was talking to George Hook about common supplements taken by athletes and how many had been found to contain a certain type of steroid. He didn't have much time to speak about it as it was nearing the end of the program when he came on, but he did mention whey protein very briefly... I don't think he was implying that it contained the steroid though. He was kind of ambivalent about it, that's why I asked here. He basically said "well it's alright for the average joe who takes whey protein but..." and he never finished his sentence :)

Going off on a huge tangent... an idea for a sticky thread might be:
    "Where to buy fitness equipment?"
I want to buy a swiss ball and dumbells and stuff, but I don't know where I'd buy 'em! Anyone got any recommendations for good shops for fitness equipment?
How do swiss balls work anyway? Do you have to inflate them with a pump or something?

Yeah been looking for an olympic set myself but their extremly expensive in Ireland. Trying to source someplace good in the UK maybe but it's so heavy shipping would be a crippler. JayK may know of someplace??

Lol not sure, I suppose they come deflated. Take a while to blow one up by mouth I'd say :)
