Anyobody got any advice on travelling to Chicago on a J1? In particular accomodation/work?

Other cities too as that will be useful for other Boarders.

if you are looking for a job in the services industry get down to Navy Pier as early as possible. Lots of jobs available around here for the summer months.

yeah, navy pier looked cool when I was there earlier this year. Owned by Mc Donalds though.

Red and Brown lines were good for getting around. Regarding accomodation, expect there to be some gang influence around if you are living in cheaper accomodation. Don't worry though, they are all usually sound. I stayed in an apartment in Chicago with some mates and we had a mexican gang in the area. They were all sound, used to sit on the steps with them and smoke joints.
For good jobs, apply as a caddy in one of the numerous golf courses on the outskirts of the city. Great money to be made there and you can work whatever days you want.
