    Hi Folks
looking for some info on SKY BOX:
i have a Sky Digibox in Republic of Ireland and i am subscribed to it for the last 2 years, but they are charging around 90 euro for full sub and i have STAR TV/B4U MOVIES/and SONY TV (ALL INDIA CHANNLE), so the budget is going out of my pocket.

Is there any possibility that i can close all the subs and still be able to get free to air channel? what abt my SKY CARD inserted in the box, do i have to take that out after pull off from SKY. and what abt the mini dish on the wall, do i have to adjust that to some new direction,,
    please respond
    regards

    Divya

You can cancel your sub and still get the FTA channels on the box.

You can leave the dish positioned where it is because i guess you are looking for Indian channels etc.

You can find out what free channels you can get by taking out you card now and zapping

Take the card out, and you will get, the mini EPG with BBC parliament and Sky news (and TCM for movies:D )
Theres a thread here, that is talking about the possibility that all the bbc channels will be available from the end of may also.

    Divya,

Once your first year of subscription to Sky has ended (or if you bought your Digibox), you can cancel your Sky subscription anytime you like. I believe the indian sub channels can be subscribed to without having a Sky subscription. There are a lot of free channels, but the quality of programmes is generally very poor. If you have friends or relations in the UK, you may be able to order a free viewing card (call UK 0870 243 8000 - if they ask tell them you bought your box second hand from Ireland). That will enable you to get BBC1/2/3/4/News 24/ITV/Channel 4 and five. Simply asian is a free Indian channel that started recently - they show mainly very old Southern Indian films in Hindi and Tamil.

P.S. You are advised to remove your e-mail address from your original post as you may start receiving unwanted spam (e-mail ad's)

Star is Murdoch owned asian, so is pay everywhere.

Lots of "Asian" is FTA, but you don't want any asian, presumably only the language(s) you speak.

B4U Movies are mostly Pay only, but FTA certian times
    B4U Music often free

You can separatly subscripe to some channels without Sky, saving maybe 30Euro to 40Euro.

    Also Check www.lyngsat.com

    Look for Satellites that have:
KU band (10.700 GHz to 12.6 GHz)
    Clear = Free
DVB = Digital, Digibox only does SR27,500 and SR22,000. But you can get a Free To Air Digital receiver for under 200 Euro

PAL = Analog Satellite receiver. S/H for free to 50Euro

In West of Ireland, if you are in the footprint or beam of the Satellite you can get at least from 50E to 55W, in East of Ireland, maybe 55E to 50W.
    Depend on Dish size.
As satellite is nearer West or East Limit, or you are nearer edge of beam, you need a bigger dish.

Hi Seano. Just wondering as you appear to be located in the netherlands, do you have any frequencies etc for Dutch FTA channels?

    Dank je wel :)

Seano posted in 2003 and his last post was 2005. I don't think you'll get an answer somehow  :p

A sky box connected to a dish pointing at Astra 28.2 east will be no good to receive dutch tv. You will need a free to air receiver connected to a dish a pointing at Astra 1G 23.5 E
